Only 2 releases? Hmm....I guess that's partly because of the huge slate (DVDs + BluRays) in November.

Also, I like the White Dog cover.

It's nice that they are doing Europa, but it would be better if Criterion did Europa, Europa!

Thank You!!!

I own all the releases from Mexico, they all have excellent transfers, I highly recommend them.

And as the good old Bunuel would say... Thank God!!! We're getting "El Angel Exterminador" from Criterion.

I got them from [some guy on ebay] Mod note: please don't post ebay links in a manner that can be construed as advertising.

He's very nice, and helped me complete my Bunuel collection,

Giles,
Does that mean a restored DVD version of Europa Europa is coming out or does that mean people are going to copy the HDNET programming of this film onto a DVD-R?

good question, I'm not sure, since MGM's hidef releases I assume are distributed by Fox (right?), and we all know that Fox' release on blu seems to be on hold and/or take forever to materalize. Personally, I'd do the latter, record it and ... if you can, transfer it to dvd

however, since it has been confirmed that Pasolini's Trilogy of Life films (and Salo for that matter) which are MGM owned, have gotten released via Criterion, a Criterion release isn't unrealistic.

Really? Has Criterion confirmed they will be releasing CANTERBURY TALES and ARABIAN NIGHTS? If so, that's great news.

Maybe somebody will correct me on this, but I'm pretty sure Fox's distribution role doesn't give them the sort of control over MGM's output that you're ascribing to them.

I'm not sure what you're asking/stating here, MGM has been transferring alot of their films for their own satellite HD channel as well as the occasional HDNet movie airing ('West Side Story' looked amazing). I'm just saying that if and when MGM gets around to actually releasing this stuff to the masses on bluray, it's my understanding most of those releases will be Fox, a few are still under Warner's distribution deal (Sony has the Bond flicks) and hopefully a few from Criterion (as Europa, Europa could conceiveably be) 'Arabian Nights' has been aired on MGM-HD, if and when Criterion releases the Trilogy next year, it better be on bluray.

How about a lenticular cover that alternates between peaceful/snarling white dog?

If Criterion were to put lenticular art on one of their releases, I'm pretty sure that'd be a sign of the apocalypse.

Man, what I would give for a CC release of Vivre sa Vie alongside a re-release of Alphaville...
