best cities to own dvd collections?
No, this topic isen't anything statistical... I'm just wondering, personaly, what would be the best cities or states to have DVD collections in? ...or to make my question even clearer...for example: I live in the New Orleans area (which is unfortinatly prone to hurricanes) so whenever I evacuate for hurricanes I'm always fearful of losing my dvd collection to a hurricane or tornado. so what places in the USA do you all think would be the least prone disaster areas as far as .. not putting you dvd collections at risk ?
I hope that makes sense.

so you are saying you are going to move to the most ideal place so your dvd collection won't be harmed during a natural disaster????? just live in a bubble enclosed in a titanium structure. you should be safe with that.

Not sure where the safest is, but here are some advisories:
Indiana, Kansas (tornadoes)
Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, the Carolinas (hurricanes)
California (earthquakes)
Missouri, Illinois (flooding)
Nevada, Texas, Georgia, California (droughts/fires)
Michigan, Minnesota (snow)
Utah (cults)
Hawaii (volcanoes)
Massachusetts (Red Sox fans)
After reviewing this list, I'm not entirely sure why anyone would want to live in America at all....

I live in northeast New York state. It gets a bit of rain, and our winters can suck, but there's nothing to ever fear losing shit over unless you accidentally burn your place down.

I would probably say California. All we really have to worry about here are earthquakes (unless you live in a fire county, but very few houses really have fires to honestly worry about), and with earthquakes you can secure you DVDs and be safe.

My advice would be to get renter's insurance or homeowner's insurance and don't stress out about it. Although moving to the Northshore might not be a bad idea, so you can at least be above sea level.

While I can see problems with fires, why would droughts endanger a DVD collection?
Basically this question could also be asked, where's the best place to store precious antiques, family photos, cash, electrionics, etc.
If you live somewhere where you have to routinely evacuate, then you live somewhere that your items are routinely in danger. Not saying other areas are necessarily "safe" but really, if you have to abandon you're home once every 25 years, that's way about average for most in this country.
P.S. I have nothing against areas like New Orleans or anyone that lives there and personally I love the place and look forward to revisiting.

On the previously posted list, Utah gets tornadoes.
California would be a horrible place. You have major earthquakes, huge fires, and soon, a good chunk will be underwater.
I never hear anything major going on in eastern Oregon.

Anyhow, I think you have to contextualize it all. And that might be somewhat unfair to say since I've never experienced anything closely resembling what some of you all did down in Louisiana/New Orleans .. though I did have my place broken into two years ago in mid-suburbia Massachusetts. My choice of residence is considerably safe. Nothing was ripped off that I know of, but that's not the point.
Based on your Listal you have 128 DVDs whereas quite a few on this board have 5 to 10 times that easily + all the other electronics to display and hear them. That equates to a huge potential loss. I wouldn't suggest planning around your DVDs when you pick a place to move. Pick a half decent home owner's/rental insurance policy and be done with.

I suppose the cities that have the best range of DVD shops would also impact ones DVD collection. A Best Buy store that gets enough of their exclusives would make it easier to build a collection.

I watched a British TV show years ago that focused on a group of people that lived in some small town in Idaho. They calculated it was the safest place in the country, because of weather, war (no likely targets for nuclear strike), and crime. Their methodology didn't seem all that scientific though, and I imagine those same groups might be a danger to the OPs DVD collection.
