I'll admit that I would be very interested if the mystery disc is the Mulholland Drive TV pilot, but what are the chances of that?

You can see above in the thread what's on the Mystery Disc. Mainly it's 35+ long-lost scenes from Wild at Heart.

"One of the things it has is 32 scenes never seen before from Wild at Heart. Partial scenes, extended scenes and complete scenes from a work print that was found, so it’s funky quality, but all of them have been edited as much as I could edit them with what was available and all of them have been mixed."

And yet he still won't allow the release of the Fire Walk With Me deleted footage until he can get a studio to pay for polished post-production work?

Actually, Lynch and all artists owe a debt of gratitude to the fans. Continued fan support helps artists to earn the cache that allows them to continue making their art on a larger scale.

Sure, they can and will continue to create art with or without fans- its in an artist's nature to do so. However, artists that earn a following also earn support from investors, allowing them to create unfettered by limited funds, supplies and resources.

I look forward to seeing (and hearing) the new materials available in the box set, but will have to wait 'til the set becomes more affordable. I am a die-hard Lynch fan, but I am also a Lynch fan on a budget. Bills first, Lynch later!

He has shown his gratitude. He gives you more art for your support. That's all any artist should give, none are obligated to give you more than that. Plus I'm sure the exclusives in this set will be released seperately or be able to rented somehow.

The Twin Peaks footage can be cleaned up, the Wild At Heart footage can't. Nothing contradictory there.

I'm asking because I honestly don't know: has this ever been confirmed with an actual Lynch quote or is it a prevalent rumor?

According to Dugpa.com, the information came from David Lynch's website.

"Lynch however, has stated in his chatroom on many occasions that New Line simply did not want to pay what it cost to do it right. The problem is that Lynch would love to release the scenes, however, he wants to do them right. This includes full hi-def transfers, editing, and sound mixing. This will cost a whole lot of money."

I can't get it to let me apply the sale to that set. How did you do it?

You have to wait until Tuesday to order it.

LA Times review of the set.

auto 11-18-08 09:50 PM

Info about the "Mystery Disk" from that review:

Spoiler:
As for that mystery disc, it contains hours of ephemera as likely to annoy non-initiates as it is to delight fanatics. There are a whopping 32 deleted scenes from "Wild at Heart." The rest of the material is roughly divided between early and late Lynch: 16-millimeter doodles from his art-school days, including a funny mock-commercial for the painkiller Anacin starring his good friend Jack Fisk (the production designer), as well as selected episodes from recent online serials (the surrealism of "Out Yonder," the brilliant absurdism of "Rabbits").

JLyon1515 11-20-08 08:45 AM

16-minute interview with Lynch (he even talks about Twin Peaks)
There's even a video of some Wild at Heart deleted scenes.

i didnt buy this set yet but im disappointed to see that the RABBITS series seems to be incomplete.

Josh-da-man 11-25-08 07:48 AM

I'm getting sort of nervous that the infamous "Fire Walk With Me" deleted scenes might show up in some similarly prestige-priced set. Like a $300 "Complete Twin Peaks" set that comes with the ten DVDs of the series that Paramount released in the Gold Box, the existing FWWM disc, and a twelfth DVD containing the deleted scenes.

For anyone interested, the LIME GREEN Set is available at Davidlynch.com for $120.00 with free UPS shipping.

Also, I understand that Rabbits is not missing any episodes, but the eight episodes have been condensed into four for some reason.

INDUSTRIAL SYMPHONY #1, DUMBLAND, SHORT FILMS and obviously everything on the "Mystery Disc" I do not have. I have all four feature films (I don't quite understand "Elepehant Man Extras - DVD debut" since the DVD I have has what appear to be the same or at least similar extras on it.

I would just toss the four movies I have on eBay, but I can't bear to give up my ERASERHEAD box set. We'll see. Even for $60.00 off, it's still a tough one. Maybe if I get a 40% coupon from Borders...

Tempting, but I have a feeling that once Lynch fully embraces Blu-ray that a lot of his material will be released in HiDef. Seeing as how I own just about everything commercially available (and then some) from his catalog, I can wait.

Re: David Lynch Box Set --> "The Lime Green Set": 11/18/08

Nice, but I have already three of the movies included, so
paying 180$ for Erazerhead, and some nice shorts is not a good idea for me...

Espetially with the Blu-Ray market evolving.

Re: David Lynch Box Set --> "The Lime Green Set": 11/18/08

I'm not sold on Blu-Ray just yet. It does look good, but not enough for me to replace much I already have.

I have an up converting DVD player that seems to work just fine.

So far the only movies I have considered replacing are the Kubrick titles, Close Encounters and maybe Dune if it gets a domestic Blu-Ray release.

Actually, he's been working on releasing the deleted scenes for years. The problem is that he does not own the footage. He has not been able to strike a deal with the French company that owns it (CIBY 2000).

2001 is absolutely gorgeous on Blu-ray.

That's not the way I've heard it. New Line was willing to pay CIBY 2000 for rights to the deleted scenes, but Lynch insisted that they also pay for him to fully post-produce, edit, and sound design the footage to make a series of standalone "vingnette" short films set in the Twin Peaks universe. New Line wouldn't go that far. The studio eventually dropped their negotiations on the subject, and released the DVD without deleted scenes.

I desperately want the Rabbits episodes, but don't want the Elephant Man stuff; plus already have the Short Films, Eraserhead and Wild at Heart, so probably not worth the $204.07 CAD price for me.

I'm hoping that since WB hinted in the HTF chat that Twin Peaks might be coming sometime that Lynch will get another opportunity to do this right.

Can you be a bit more specific? By "Twin Peaks", do you mean "Fire Walk With Me"? WB doesn't have anything to do with the television series, right?
