Sukiyaki Western Django 11/11/08 Too Many Flavors...

First Look is releasing Takashi Miike's Sukiyaki Western Django on November 11th, with a staggering 6 different cover configurations as far as I can tell. That date will also see a 2 disc BD release. I cannot find information on whether the SD will be 2 disc, though I would imagine so. Here are the covers, each will be available in standard keepcase and Steelbook options:

Thanks Zombeaner! Looks like a heavy marketing scheme having 3 variant steelbook designs...

And I will probably fall for it. I already own the movie, too! These releases better have subs, though. I thought this one was going to get some theatrical play.

Yeah, they cut it quite a bit. Apparently the Japanese version is ok and HKFlix.com has a Malaysian copy with Eng subs that is uncut.

So we are getting the edited version. Damm that's a shame.

That's some excellent cover art! Serious shame about the lost 20 mins. Anyone have the contact information for First Look? Perhaps they would reconsider the edits.

In this day in age I have no understanding why companies continue to undermine the appreciation fans have towards films with heavy cuts such as this. At least offer a choice.

Love all 3 covers. I'm with everyone else that I'm bummed that the release is cut.

Anyone know if the Geneon Blu-Ray release of this film is uncut?

Yeah, the Geneon is the same as the SD, they are both Japanese discs, but neither have English subs, which I would recommend.

Damn that sucks. Does anyone have the Malaysian disc? How is the A/V?

I hate that the R1 cover art for this film is awesome but the film is being release cut

I've seen the Japanese version, and unfortunately, the movie kinda sucks. Miike has pretty much lost it.

I heartily disagree. Miike has made at least three VERY GOOD movies in the last year. This one, Crows Zero, and Like a Dragon are all very enjoyable. I think I'll get more out of this film if I can see the full cut with subtitles though. QT was a little annoying, but not enough to make me dislike the film.

Sweet.

I'm still bummed those awesome covers will be accompanied by a film that is missing 20+ minutes.

I heard that Miike shot this film in English. Is there any truth to that?

It is all in very broken English. Well, there are like 2 lines in Japanese. The USA DVD will have English subs, which is a very good idea, because it is a little hard to follow otherwise.

I'm sure this is old news by now but Sukiyaki is hitting NY screens in less than a week - and a quick Q&A with the director.

So was the 20+ minutes that was cut out by Miike himself or by First Look?

Bump. Out today.

I know I asked this before, but was the 20+ minutes cut by First Look or by Miike? Was it approved by Miike?

See I dunno...I got it today, totally forgot it was coming out. And from what I can tell without looking at the deleted scenes, it's paced well. I've no idea if it's by choice of Miike though. Best Buy has 3 different cover art steelbooks and it has a bonus disc filled with I don't know yet. For 14.99 though it's a good deal. I liked the film, it's also more of an acquired taste as well...

I couldn't pass up on the sweet packaging

I'll have to watch it sometime soon. If I'm iffy about the missing 20 minutes, I always have the option of the Malaysian Version which is uncut.

It kind of sucks how they packaged the steelbooks. I mean there isn't even any shrinkwrapping over the cases! From what I saw, most if not all of the steelbooks had smudge marks and scratch marks on them. Some of the the artwork were scratched off as well.
