That's total bullshit,I can't believe how cheap they are....
Look at My Bloody Valentine it took Lions Gate to release it Uncut....
They are only releasing part 1 because it's already been released Uncut on DVD.
So it didn't cost them anything for that....
I can live with most of F13s released theater versions if the features are great....
But there's no excuse for VII: The New Blood, it needs to be re-stored!!!!

I'm sure they will sometime down the line, but there aren't any plans currently. Ironically, it might depend on how well these new editions sell but if enough fans hold off waiting for a BD then it won't happen. Lame. You might be better off importing the UK editions.

I don't know if they'll have slipcovers, but I would be very surprised if they didn't. Paramount likes slipcovers, usually.

I assumed they just couldn't find uncut footage for 2 and 3 but they have to be kidding about not even trying with the rest. I'm sure there is no bluray for 2 and 3 so idiots like me have to buy them on DVD for a 3rd time now, and then a 4th when they go to bluray, and then again when they find some lost footage and make it a special feature, and then again when they decide to restore that footage to the movies, 'til I own 25 copies of each F13 movie. Except for the fact that I am just about ready to not care anymore. It just isn't worth it at this point. Not for financial reasons alone but HOW STUPID CAN I BE? I'd like to know how many movies they have released over the years have made as much $, have had as much merchandising, and has had a 320 page full-color hardcover book devoted to it. And as for them NOT doing uncut films, I'm sure they will come eventually. They just have to milk every last penny first. They said in the past they do not release unrated films (here comes part 1 unrated) and it was not possible to release 3 to home video in 3D (here that comes). Lionsgate have no problem paying to restore the much less known My Bloody Valentine, and the His Name Was Jason DVD people even managed to (as the trailer says) dig up behind-the-scenes footage from the movies- more effort than anything Paramount has released. This is all shaping up to be another big scam.

Part II and III are coming out in Blu-ray in the UK - Region free. Cost is roughly $20 or so to import it here. I'll be getting all 3 on DVD (review copies) and BD so I'll let you know if II and III are any good. I'm curious to see if III will be 3D on BD.

I just sold my best buy exclusive jason forever disc in preparation for the new discs. The money I got for that covers the costs of purchasing part 1 as well as part 2. So I'm really only paying for part 3. I'm fine with that. Luckily I only purchased the box set, so this will only be my second time purchasing them on disc, although I did purchase them all on vhs :down:

Now I'm curious about buying the BD's from the UK and part 3 from Australia.

Though according to Amazon the BD's are Region 2, which I assume they mean Region B which wouldn't play on US players

This is the same Paramount who had to be publicly shamed by Steven Spielberg into restoring The Godfather and The Godfather Part II before the original elements deteriorated away.

The more I read about this situation (and the more my financial situation doesn't improve), I'll probably just end up doing the same.

And if me not buying these new releases directly causes Paramount to think that there is no interest in future editions, so be it.

As far as I know, Paramount does NOT region code their BDs. So there should be no issues with these working in American players. I have my ordered...soo feel free to wait for me to confirm if you want :)

I thought Warner Brothers held the international rights? I bought the first one uncut from the UK a few years ago and it had the WB logo on it.

EDIT: On closer inspection Amazon also has them listed as PAL format, which means they won't play on NTSC TV's.

Part III, only had very minor gore excised. No where as much compared to what II, V and VII lost for their R-ratings. I'd be very surprised if Paramount can find II and V's cut footage - why Paramount would force the director's to cut the footage to get an R-rating and then just throw it away is beyond me. If I as a director of a splatter film spent all that time and effort into creating a movie only to have it 'censored' - I wouldn't just abandon the footage all together and not think that it wouldn't see the light of day at a latter date - you create a full pre-MPAA approved cut of the film. The rating's are only applicable to the US distribution of the film not the international markets, other countries should have gotten the harder cuts of the films, Paramount just made the R-rated cuts of the film the defacto cut of the films - sad, just sad.

also Paramount are hypocrites when they've said in the past they don't release 'unrated' dvd's, they released the more explicit "unrated" euro cuts of Sliver and Jade onto VHS. It took them years to finally release the longer NC-17 version of 1900 for US release.

I think a lot of the F13's were being sent to the MPAA scene by scene as these movies were usually edited and released as fast as humanly possible. So some may never have had a true 'uncut' version to begin with, though what that means for the "X rated" footage I have no idea. The director of 7 seems to think his film can be restored with some effort.

actually that's not the case for part V, in the book "Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th" they actually reprint the MPAA raters page that details all the scenes in the complete pre-cut screened print that would have qualified the film as being rated X if not trimmed/cut.

On a similiar note, In the movie 'This Film Not Yet Rated' the investigators find an identical page the raters use when screening films that was discarded in the trash. Although many filmmakers describe the cutting of their films to be vague and elusive, as both incidents described here, it's much more specific than that.

There is no such thing as PAL or NTSC with Blu-ray movies only Special Features. Its possible those (special features) will be in PAL...but so far, I think UK Paramount titles have been OK in American. And I just checked, its a Paramount release in the UK. It should get it around the 15th of Feb.

Will do. I have an LG 200 (region free BD) so regardless, they will play for me :) But I will post here when they arrive (I plan on reviewing them anyway for my site) and let you know Region and if the Features work.

Actually, looks like the F13 DVDs and 1 BD just arrived at my house for review!!!!!! (I kid you not, just got an IM from a fellow reviewer!). DVDs have slip covers, BD does not! I'll get pics up tonight :) Oh man oh man...may have to cancel seeing My Bloody Valetine 3D tonight and just enjoy all 3!
