MGM - UPC confusion?

I just received the above DVD from SecondSpin.

Upon researching the UPC code "027616884268" - this is the Special Edition with Bonus Features. However, my DVD with the same UPC code only got the Commentary by Gary Sinise & Theatrical Trailer.

What is this mess all about?

DVDBeaver has experienced the same problem.

What gives ...?!!!

Sounds like they are only pressing one side of the disc. Is it a flipper, or is there artwork on it? The reviewer here had the extras available on their copy, so either they've silently dropped the extras to save $, or it's a manufacturing error. Either way, very lame.

indeed they dropped the extras to save money... happened a few years ago...

the interview with Gary Sinise and Horton Foote is my pick for the best feature we lost, followed by 'the making of' special feature...

this is one of my favorite movies... in the top three at any time on any list...

i have been hoping for a better DVD release but doubt we'll ever see it...

Yes, there is artwork on it. Yes, itīs VERY LAME!

At least MGM could have change the UPC code so one could tell the difference between the two.

They've done this with multiple titles. Just off the top of my head, The Terminator, Thelma & Louise, and Valley Girl have suffered the same fate.

That's exactly why they didn't change the UPC code.

F*ck the customer = more sales.

I think they leave the UPC's the same because it's easier for retailers, since they don't have to add an item to their inventory. That's just sloppy and lazy though.

Another MGM title like this is Bowling For Columbine. The first release was the Special Edition which is a 2-disc set. Now it's only a single disc release, but the UPC is the same.

This happened with the Jeepers Creepers DVD too. I bought one that listed all kinds of speical features on the back and it turned out to have nothing on it. There were even insructions on the menu screen to flip the disc for more features, but it was only 1 sided. I had to go to ebay to get the original 2-sided disc with the features.

Laziness in the extreme on the part of the manufacturer.

I changed the topic to "MGM - UPC confusion" as they seem to be really, really sloppy regarding this issue.

Anyhow, didnīt they do the same with Itīs a Mad, Mad, Mad Mad World?
