Which DVDs that you own are sequels to originals you don't?

Sometimes I find it amusing when people own less-than-classic sequels but not the highly esteemed originals. It recently re-entered my head after buying the Psycho 2/3/4 DVD (for the free Hellboy II ticket).

Though the most question marks I get is if I ever volunteer the info that I own Hannibal but not Silence of the Lambs.

There was also a short period where I owned Exorcist II just for the sake of seeing how bad it was.

I think the only series I have missing the original is Child's Play, but that will change when the new SE comes out.

I did own The Good, The Bad & The Ugly for over a year before I bought the first two films in the trilogy. Same thing with Zapped Again!, but that was because the original didn't even get released until earlier this year.

EDIT:

Well I did buy Child's Play, so I took care of that. However, like the OP, I went out and bought the Psycho 2/3/4 pack and don't own the original...yet. I'm going to buy the Blu-ray when it comes out.

Not sure if this will count, but I will be picking up "The Incredbile Hulk" when it comes out. I have no intention of ever owning the Ang Lee version. But it's arguable whether the new one is really a "sequel" or not. I'd say no, personally.

Young Guns 2, which is in my opinion, way more pimp than the original.

I own Blade II, not the first or third. Pirates 3 over the first two. AvP: Requiem over any of the Alien or Predator films, only because I waiting for the Alien BD!

I also own Road Warrior but not the first or third.

Most of the reason why is because I have the films on BD and not the previous films. Blade II because I love del Toro.

I was about to post the same thing. The original is so much better. Same with Alien.

On topic, nothing for myself as far as I know. My OCD wouldn't allow me to own a sequel without the original for more than a couple days. And I can't watch anything out of order either.

Alien vs. Predator - Still want to get the Alien Quadrilogy, and hope that Fox releases a nice Predator set, but to me rather than try to buy every movie I'll own one definitive movie that has them both.

Blade II - So much better than the original. Better action. Better humor. Loved this movie, thought the first and third were just okay.

Freddy vs. Jason - not very big on owning cheap horror movies, but this movie was more of an event that anything else, and it's no horror movie. It's popcorn fun, and possibly the most culturally significant of the bunch (let the flaming begin).

Superman Returns - Saw the version with the Circuit City bonus disc for $10, decided to pick it up. Still not sure if I want to buy the first two movies or go all out and pick up the super-set.

In the future, I'm definitely going to pick up Indiana Jones 4, even though I have no intention of owning the original trilogy. The first is a classic, but since I didn't grow up with it, it's not as important to me. The second it just god-awful, and the third is really only great once Sean Connery shows up. Indy 4 was just awesome.

Exactly. There are a few exceptions. Like the poster above I will buy the new Hulk movie but don't (and won't) own the Ang Lee version. I rented it again two weeks ago to see if my opinion changed and it was as bad as I remember.

Also I own Exorcist 1 and 3, but don't have 2 or the new versions.

There are many examples of sequels I don't own, but have the originals (Blade 3 was so bad I couldn't bear to get it).

Now that I think about it I also own Rocky Balboa but not any of the first 5. I love Rocky 1, really like Rocky 2, and 3 & 4 are guilty pleasures but I just haven't had a chance to pick up the set on the cheap yet.

I own Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky, but none of the first three Child's Play films. I've never even seen any of them. I might finally pick them all up when the SE of the first film comes out; I haven't decided yet.

I don't have Silence of the Lambs, but Hannibal as well. I'm waiting for a BD release.

For the longest time I only had Men in Black II, but that changed a few weeks ago when I got Men in Black on Blu-ray.

There are probably a few others in my collection where I have the sequel or prequel, but don't have the original. I'm finding with Blu-ray that the few where I didn't have the original (like with MiB); I'm finally owning it.

The first Terminator isn't a bad movie by any means. I fucking love it. I just never got around to buying it.

And IMO, T2 is one of the greatest films of all-time. I've seen it 100x more than the first one. I've also never seen the third one the whole way through.

I might have to Netflix the first one again. I haven't seen it in awhile.

I own Batman Begins but none of the other Batman movies. Might not count depending whether you consider it a sequel or not. (I don't)

I own Dawn of the Dead (1978) but not Night of the living Dead or any of the other sequels.

I own Exorcist III but not Exorcist II. (I do own pt. 1 however)

I own Mission: Impossible 2 but not M:I 1

I own Star Trek: First Contact but none of the others.

Huh, that's actually more than I thought!

The Exorcist III

I also have a few series' with gaps (not counting stuff like Star Trek where I stopped at a certain point (#6) and never bought any more)

I own Bourne Identity and Ultimatum but not Supremacy
Die Hard, With a Vengeance, and Live Free or..., but not Die Hard 2
The Bond films, I own about 10 titles, and will probably only pick up 3 or 4 more to have the ones I like.

Spiderman 2
Caved in and got SM3 on blu-ray for $11 and change but have no care to see the first one again. SM2 is easily on my top 20 list the first is just terrible by comparison, imho.

Same here. But that's going to change now that a Widescreen version of the original is finally coming out.

Ditto on both counts.

After a recent Big Lots trip I own most of the Pink Panther sequels minus the original and the third entry simply because they weren't there.

I own Rocky IV and none of the others. The end fight is the most badass in the series, although I haven't seen VI yet.

It was the movie that ended the Cold War
