I have not yet bought the MPI releases because I didn't know what Paramount was going to do with this. Now i'm even more confused. If Paramount doesn't want to release S1 because of the MPI releases, then why don't they just release S2 Vol 2, instead of the complete S2? I don't want to have to buy 3 MPI releases and pay for duplicate episodes. Plus the fact that MPI had a seperate release for the Christmas episodes just makes it worse. I hope Paramount will release S1 complete, even though I would miss out on the extras.

At this point I don't want to buy S2 with out season 1, and I don't want to buy those MPI releases only to have Paramount release thier own S1 set. I guess i'll have to wait a little longer and see what Paramount is going to do. It's a shame how screwed up this has gotten.

I wonder if Paramount will use the complete opening credits with the extra verse in the theme song. Ever notice that the credits end with Jed pointing to something on his right? In one version they pass a Winston cigarettes truck, in another a Kellogg's billoard. The words of last verse differ depending on the sponsor. The MPI releases also include commercials for both products and Shows Jed smoking Winstons.

My feelings exactly...

Frankly, I'm getting to the point where I'm seriously considering holding off on buying any individual seasons of TV shows on DVD when I'm not comfortable with the format (ie - half season sets) or confident of future releases, at least until the entire show is out and the (inevitable) 'Complete Series' box set is released.

I'm very pleased with Paramount's Official Season 2 release. All episodes appear to be unedited and with the original music. The video quality is certainly better than the MPI releases. Best of all, the original sponsor segments are included...not as separate bonuses, but they are back in the episodes themselves! Many of the ending sponsor segments continue the episodes' storylines and extend the episodes by several minutes--it's great to see these segments back where they belong. Surprisingly, Paramount has done a great job with this release, and hopefully they will continue this in future releases of the series, including Season 1.

I'll just skip it entirely and buy season 3, etc. Too late to wait for a complete series set though.

I'm going to pick up Season 2 after work today to watch over the weekend. Luckily, I only bought the first volume of the MPI releases when they came out, so I won't have any major duplication in episodes. Only thing, I'll be out a Christmas episode I think...
