Re: Post pics of your DVD collection and HT, Part 12

Well, it's been quite a while since I contributed to this thread. I just created a bunch of web pages (7 of them to be exact) which show the DVDs which I own. You can find Page 1 here: http://danwiz.com/DVDsOwned/DVDsPage1.html and links to the remaining pages at the bottom of each page. I'd like to think this is a final version, but it you have any suggestions for a better way to present things I'm ready to listen to you. Oh, one thing you don't need to comment on is the size of the pages - I know that they are HUGE and I am aware that people using a Dial-up connection should not even be contemplating looking at these pages.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Here's a photo of my HT circa 1989. No dvds, but there are laser discs across the bottom shelf.

That is the exact entertainment center I used to have in my bedroom up until about 5 or 6 years ago.

But did yours have that nice "bow" in the middle to it like mine? That monitor was heavy.

Re: Post pics of your DVD collection and HT, Part 12

Hey everybody,

I run a website called: NERDSociety.com.

One of our writers is doing a couple of articles regarding our hobby and collecting in general. Then we started talking how it would be cool to put up different collections (whether it's home theater, movie memorabilia, dvd's, etc) on the site and create a catalog for it so readers could check it out.

I know a lot of you guys have awesome collections and it'd be great if we can put it up on the site. I was wondering if you guys would want to contribute and give me a link to one of your posts (if you already posted) where it has pics of your HT. Thanks

Not really the Indy and TCM ones are where the door opens up to. The Nightmare Before Christmas one could come down but I'm probably just going to buy some smaller floor shelves to go across that wall under the window so it will be ok. And the Aladdin one is already above a shelf that I bought because it was exactly the size of the space I had there, I wish I was taller but sadly it was not. So that poster will say as well.

Yes, I'm curious as well. Could you please post 600 pictures of it over the next few months? Thanks

Thats really not the point of this thread though. It's to show people your collection/home theater, not to show them every new dvd you get. You've got a nice collection but you've posted it at least five times in this thread alone. You probably buy new dvds every week. We don't need to see a pic of every new one.

Re: Post pics of your DVD collection and HT, Part 12

I'm sorry for jumping into this thread with a question, but trying to search for the answer came up empty for me.

If you buy a Blu Ray DVD, does it include all or some of the bonus materials you previously bought on a 2-disc regular DVD.

Like say Magnolia or something.

I guess I'm asking if a Blu Ray holds more than a regular DVD?

I just got a Blu Ray and know nothing about it.

thanks for any help

Not really the best place to ask, but I guess simply put, yes a BluRay can hold 5 times more information than a DVD.
As for extras being ported over, depends on title to title. You have to check individual titles.

I meant update my pictures. Not my collection. And as I rearrange my collection or add a shelf or something big like that, I post. I don't put up a new pictures every time I buy a DVD.

Re: Post pics of your DVD collection and HT, Part 12

After collecting and visiting this site for about ten years I finally crossed the #5000 mark for dvds/blu-rays (it was Simon Says with Crispin Glover if anyone was curious) so I figured I'd finally show pictures of my collection on here as I've been enjoying these threads since they first popped up. I'm not quite done with setting them up as I ran out of supplies but I'll just post how far along it is now. Took me about three months to get this far.

The main problem is when I tried to take pics, the room was too small to get them all in one shot. I had to get these from the hallway.

So I decided to try taking photos of smaller bunches and then stitch them together in Photoshop. I couldn't spend a lot of time on them so they don't quite match up very well but you can get the basic idea. I apologize if they look a bit janky. Once I get the rest of the shelves up and finalized, I'll take better pics.

These are all horror and related cult/exploitation films.

These are pretty much everything else. Drama, comedy, action, etc. This one came out pretty bad.

If anyone wants to see closeups of a section just let me know.

The blu-rays piled on top of one another makes me uncomfortable.

They'll be getting their own shelf as soon as I can pick some more up.

Great pics, dcrw6. I bet there's more than one occasion you stand in your massive collection and say to yourself, "Man, 5,000 DVDs, and still nothing to watch..." And then the collecting continues.
