Re: Post pics of your DVD collection and HT, Part 12

Hey guys! I've been posting in this thread for quite some time and have updated my home theater a ton recently. I bought a new house a few weeks ago and have been busting my ass working non-stop on the HT.

Here's the floor plan of the new basement: (spoilerized for size)
Spoiler:

I started with this:
Spoiler:

Prep work I did:
  • Painted the drop ceiling black
  • Painted the front wall black
  • Painted the remaining walls dark slate grey
  • Put trim up around walls and doors
  • Ran all cabling through drop ceiling and walls
  • Re-wired all electrical
  • Installed sconces
  • Installed Lutron IR dimmer system (my remote controls the lights)
  • Moved all the shit down there (probably the toughest thing )

And ended up with this:
Spoiler:

A/V Rack:
Spoiler:

BDs/HD DVDs/Video Games/DVDs:
Spoiler:

Equipment list:
  • Stewart Filmscreen StudioTek 130 THX
  • Sanyo PLV-Z700 1080 projector
  • B&W 600 series speakers (7 channels)
  • Velodyne CHT-12
  • Denon AVR-987 receiver
  • Toshiba HD-A3 for HD DVDs
  • Sony PS3 for Blu-rays
  • Oppo 981-HD for DVDs
  • Scientific Atlantica 8300HD for cable
  • Monoprice HDX-501 HDMI switcher (Denon only has 2 HDMI inputs)
  • Nintendo Wii
  • Logitech Harmony 880 remote
  • Lutron Maestro IR lighting system

Stuff I still need to do:
  • Get acoustical panels made (I have an acoustical engineer friend to help me with this)
  • Cover front wall wiring (couldn't run it behind the wall)
  • Install red front curtains
  • Touch up ceiling and walls again (I keep hitting them too hard when moving stuff and chipping paint)

Future plans:
  • Make the room much bigger with a complete tear-out and re-model as walls are panels
  • New carpet
  • Install bar area when re-model happens
  • Install false front wall and stage to comepletely hide speakers
  • Get some sleep

Hit up my HT link below in my sig for more details and here for more pics.

Looks great steebo... I, too, wish I had the space for a home theater. Just wondering though, how come you named it Gazeebo Googleplex?

Awesome steebo!! I am EXTREMELY jealous!!

Update!
I just showed the pics to the wife. She loves what you've done with the place! Now she and I want to know where did you pick up the film reels and popcorn wall decorations?

Take care all!!

Thanks for the kind words everyone! I still need to demo some movies and video games though, I just haven't had the time until this weekend (finally).

Thanks! The name is a reference to the theater in the Simpsons.

As a man I shouldn't say this, but... Bed Bath & Beyond.

The 6 big ones are Atlantic brand. not 100% sure of the model number. I bought them at Best Buy. They still carry them and can be found on their site and in stores. The 2 tall skinny ones on the sides are from Ikea. They also still carry them and can also be found on their site and in stores as well. I plan on picking up 4 more of the skinny ones to put on the sides on the two large shelves that stand alone. They make get end caps since they stick up past the tops of the large shelves thus turning the tops into another shelf.

Lol. I get that a lot. But it would never happen. I don't even let family members borrow movies. Even my wife is sure to ask me before she watches one of my DVDs. HA!

Ha! Never thought of it like that. But it sounds about right.
I rarely ever pay over $5.00 for a movie and $10.00 for a season. So i spend pretty much all my time DVD hunting. Even on my lunch breaks you will find me in DVD stores and weekends are the same. If you spend as much time as I do DVD hunting, its pretty amazing some of the deals you can find. Though I tend to find so many that by midweek I'm broke. LOL!

You should post after pics after you dust, clean, and organize your room.

How could you treat your DVD like that? You do not deserve the honor of owning DVDs. Now go hang your head in shame and buy some proper storage!
