Holy crap, that's awesome. What an amazing film.

I guess a Blu-ray version would be too much to ask...

Should include Robert Gitt's Charles Laughton Directs "Night of the Hunter" at all costs. Also should be widescreen; non-Cinemascope films at this time were composed to be projected at an aspect ratio of between 1.66:1 to 1.85:1 (sometimes up to 2:1), not the 1.33:1 of the current DVD - IMDB lists 1.66:1 as the intended ratio.

For those devotees of the film, Preston Neal Jones' exhaustive and fascinating account of it's shooting, Heaven and Hell to Play With, is heartily recommended. Amazon

This is super exciting. I love Night of the Hunter, this and Cape Fear are my two favorite Mitchum performances.

Well, that was close. I was planning on buying the old edition in a few days at the DD sale. Glad I dodged that one.

I rarely jump in to double-dip, but since this is on my all-time "top ten" list, I'll do it in a heartbeat!

Excellent. I love this film and will happily re-buy it for some great features and a new transfer.

Great news!!

What a fantastic box set could be made from NOTH, CF, and the largely-unseen but great, moody, noirish western Blood On The Moon! All three feature Mitchum at his darkest & most savage (although he is somewhat of a good guy in the latter, although more in the Man With No Name vein).

For sheer animalistic, visceral power & menace, Mitchum did it better than anyone (even Brando)...and with such ease.

Great. According to classic flix, this has been postponed indefinitely.
"After announcing last week a September 9th release date for The Night of the Hunter (Collector's Edition), an industry source has now informed us that it been removed from the schedule. When asked for a ballpark release date, he could only say that it will happen, but could not say when."
