DVD Talk Limited Edition
Mister Peepers, Roland Emmerich and Larry Buchanan are directors. Can we go ahead and use the checklist for this challenge, or do you want us to wait and use it for next year's challenge?

The visual effects commentary is constantly moving, but it does get a little old after a while. I did find it interesting that the filmed all of the city explosion scenes with the city on it's side since fire tends to go upward.

Devlin tries to salvage a couple of interesting quips. He does point out the special edition additions (as in Stargate.)

as for the city destruction scenes, yeah that fact is really cool, I don't know if they had pics of it on the laserdisc or DVD special features, but the production shots I've seen in Cinefex are fascinating.

IMDB pissed me off because they change genres of movies.
I use Movie Collector to keep track of my movies and it gets the genre from IMDB and back in February I added Fido. It was listed as being Horror, Comedy, Sci-fi. So I decided to watch it since it's in my sci-fi section.
I check IMDB after I'm done, just to make sure and find out they dropped sci-fi and added romance. All Movie didn't help me either, so I ended up not counting it.
It was a good movie but if they're going to give NOTLD a sci-fi rating, they really should keep it on this one.

Here's a question. Hellboy: Sword of Storms is 1 hour 17 minutes. What does that count as? It is a stand-alone DVD, but I think it aired on TV somewhere. 3/4 of a title? Blood and Iron is also ~75 minutes.
A side question. I'm not quite sure Hellboy or the Hellboy animated titles are really Sci-Fi. They are listed in IMDB as Sci-Fi, but as the 5th genre. Is there a qualifier on the genre? Does it have to be top 3 genres or anything? I vaguely remember this from the Horror challenge (I can't remember) that it had to be in the top 3 genres or something. The movie has some Sci-Fi elements with the evil entities being trapped in outer space. Just would like a clarification.

Would JASON X be considered Sci-Fi?

Question 1: From what I can tell, it looks like a stand-alone movie so I'll go with that unless I'm missing something.
Question 2: As long as you see sci-fi anywhere, you're good, even if it's the 16th genre listing.
My Series 3 Tivo took a dump on me and I'm losing everything on it since I have to send it in to get it replaced.
Now I've lost all 6 Star Wars movies in HD, the theatrical version of Grindhouse in HD and MST3K: The Movie in HD. So much for putting off making DVDs out of all of those.

I think it's getting clear that IMDB really isn't as reliable a source as we thought. I see nothing wrong with counting the superhero movies. Every one but Batman is listed as SCi Fi, anyway (and it should be, with the futuristic technology he uses.)

I went with the imdb/allmovie rule just because a standard for what is and isn't sci-fi. While it isn't perfect, it avoids the problems when one person says a movie is sci-fi and another says it isn't which happened in the horror challenge.
I just came here to post that I'm glad people aren't watching the sci-fi channel and instead are watching better stuff.
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes isn't as bad as it was when I was a kid. Back then I rented tons of monster horror movies and got tricked by the cover of this movie. Now I can appreciate the humor and the movie for what it is.
Now it's time for Alien Outlaw.

I agree with having an authority, but some things are so obvious that they should transcend the authority. Sure, Ghost Rider and American Splendor are obviously not Sci Fi, but Hancock is basically a pastiche on Superman and other comic book heroes and should be de facto Sci Fi regardless of IMDB. How Batman (1943) can be SF and Batman (1966) isn't is beyond me. In Horror, there was someone who was trying to get ET the Extraterrestrial listed due to the 5 minute trick-or-treat scene but other than that it seemed more like inquiries rather than disputes.
So, basically, I don't think a film should be excluded solely because IMDB has its head up its posterior. IMDB can be an authority, but if a decent argument can be made then exceptions should be allowed. Heck, if we can count 4 viewings of the same movie and not one of them is the actual soundtrack, then I can't see why we can't be more liberal with our definitions.

As long as nobody has a problem with it, I think we can do it.
Anyone have a problem with including:
Hancock - like Superman which is labeled sci-fi
Batman - half of them are labeled sci-fi already
Fido - zombies that are controlled with special collars
