24 Season 1 SE...Is it worth the double dip?

Has anyone picked this up yet to confirm whether or not it's worth the double dip?

I picked it up, but it all depends if you care about extras or not.

There's 2 audio commentaries (Not previously available) and a bonus disc with a documentary on the making of 24 (not previously available), the alternate ending to season finale (on the previous release) and a bunch of deleted and extended scenes (which wasn't on the previous release)

I haven't got a chance to pop in the disc yet, but I read there is a 2nd alternate ending to the season finale.

If you care about extras, then yes this set is worth it. I sold my previous set to get this one today.

The previous release was essentially barebones.

This tin case is pretty cool and features an up count 24 hour clock on the front.

Any B&M retailers have season 6 on sale too, so you can take advantage of the $15 coupon?

Has anyone done A/V comparisons to the original set?

Anyone want to spoil that second ending for those of us not buying (or waiting for a blu release)?

This is just another way for us to double dip. I love the show. But...I'm a big supporter for Blu-ray. Season 1 is planned for release soon. So I'll wait it out. The tin is a tough decision though!

That's the first alternate ending that was on the original set. This new set has a second alternate ending, which I believe is what he was asking for.

Okay I watched a little bit of the bonus features last night:

1. I could not find the rumored 2nd alternate ending. Unless it's an easter egg, it was nowhere to be found. The other alternate ending with Surnow's commentary is still there.

2. I did watch the Genesis of 24 documentary and I thought it was pretty good, but not as detailed and indepth as the 2-part 90 minute documentary from the season 2 set. They basically interviewed Kiefer, Surnow, Cochran and Howard Gordon along with Stephen Hopkins and an editor and director of photography. No other cast members from season 1 were interviewed. I think this documentary was shot fairly recently as Kiefer mentioned several times about how they have been on 7 seasons. Overall, the content covered was pretty interesting and they showed some clips and behind the scenes footage from season 1. The documentary covered pretty much the idea of the show to the casting, production of the pilot and how it went to series.
And go figure it ran 24 minutes!!

3. The early specs also mentioned the season 7 trailer, which was also nowhere to be found on the bonus disc....unless it's an easter egg.

4. Each episode now has chapter selections.....the previous release didn't have this.

5. All the deleted and extended scenes are located on the bonus disc (7)

6. I did not see any notation of any Extended episodes, which was also mentioned on the early specs for this release as well.

7. There is actually a really cool insert with introductions to the series from Surnow and Bob Cochran. It's a nice little read.

I don't see myself double-dipping on the Blu-ray until it hits the same price point I bought all the seasons for: $20. This is just one of those shows that doesn't have a ton of replay value, although it has a very high play value, if that makes sense.

So no actual reviews of this? I'm interested to know how the audio and video were improved, if they were.

It's an up clock. Once you open the set, there is a reset button and the clock will go to 0:00 and start counting to 24 hours.

does it auto. go to 0:00 once you open it or do you open, press reset and then it counts to 24:00. and then you press reset everytime you want it to count up? that sounds pretty cool. is it?

You have to open it and you will see the re-set button. Press it and the clock re-sets back back to 0:00 and the starts an up count to 24 hours.

Anybody know if they're going to do Special Editions of the other seasons, too? I don't have any of them yet, but I'd LOVE to get them all in those slick tin cases!

I don't think there is a real need to... from what I recall, every other season was more loaded than this SE release of season one is. Unless they just want to put out the same sets in tins...

What kept me from buying this is that they didn't re-master the audio into 5.1 surround - stereo only.
