Personally, they are all great films. And I would buy them on DVD, but I am getting into hi-def content so I will wait.

But there is no reason not to release both. Plenty of folks still want DVD's, there is a market for them. And there is a market for Blu too. My only complaint is, the extras should be the same...I suppose Blu can have some added content web wise, but as long as everything carries over, what is the big deal?

Can't wait! It's good its coming out to both Standard and Blu-Ray but I agree it didnt really need both because some people are just now getting into DVD's so it will be a while before Standard DVD's are no longer wanted

DVDTalk review. Did the Collector's Edition and the Masterpiece Collection have identical transfers?

Just from looking at the captures, the 2-disc seems to be the same as the MC remaster. So, it's worth upgrading for the extras, but if you have the MC box, you'll already have an A+ presentation.

I would like to see a review from someone who has and/or seen the masterpiece collection. It was my understanding that these were going to be new transfers.

Well, I never had any interest in getting the whole Hitchcock collection, so this is a definite upgrade for me.

In this case, the '05 MC transfer didn't need any improving. It's demo material for the kind of film it was shot on (grainier 1954 Eastmancolor). The first edition had filtering applied, which took out the grain at the cost of softening the image considerably.

DVDBeaver review. From Gary's screencaps, the Legacy edition looks to be an improvement on both previous releases - look at the closeup of Stewart's sweating forehead.
