That's only cheaper in the cases where I'm NOT charged an extra $50 in customs charges, though - it's always a crap shoot. |

Can't wait for this release. |
Here's DVD Beaver's comparison. It's like night and day.

O_O Holy crap! That just might be the best improved transfer I've ever seen.
|
Wow. Whoever paid big bucks for that old Criterion got screwed. That is indeed a terrible looking transfer that looks greatly improved.
|
I can't wait to pick this up. 80 page booklet, mmm!
|
I'm excited about the new transfer. Looks great!
What is this "alchemist transfer method" that DVD Beaver mentions is used on the new Criterion disc? http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDRe...20PDVD_003.jpg |

Does anybody know why I can't find Brand Upon the Brain anywhere in Canada?

Since PAL is 25 fps and NTSC is a little under 30 fps, roughly five new frames would need to be created every second by interlacing two frames together. Within the last few years, a new process (UFC, or universal format converter, I believe) was created that eliminates the interlacing. It looks a lot better and stays much more faithful to the look of the original PAL source. How it does this though... I couldn't actually tell you.

That's strange. I never get charged by customs when I order from Amazon.com since I think they have a Distribution center in Canada for the orders. Now shipping charge is another story...

Wow that sounds like all sorts of bad. I won't mind as long as I don't notice it on viewings.

If it's really distracting, you can still score a copy of the OOP edition for only $63.00 on Ebay. 9 bids and counting!
Collectors maybe? |

I was wondering about that the other day. Why are people still bidding on the original Criterion release? It's ridiculously inferior to the new Criterion disc isn't it? Collectors maybe?

As a completist, I'm looking to buy the The Killer Criterion. It hasn't come down in price.
I got Salo over the weekend. Haven't watched it yet. There's a sticker on it saying "Warning: Explicit Content" The cover art isn't as clear as looks on the internet. I think it's one of those things that can be seen better from farther away. |

Well I mean, I voted for that but that was just a general "yes I'm going to get it soon" but I didn't get it TODAY.

^ I would check Barnes & Nobles. They seem to have a pretty extensive up-to-date criterion section.
