That's strange. I never get charged by customs when I order from Amazon.com since I think they have a Distribution center in Canada for the orders. Now shipping charge is another story...

Wow. Whoever paid big bucks for that old Criterion got screwed. That is indeed a terrible looking transfer that looks greatly improved.

yet the prior UK release still has a smidgen of more footage - or is in the new edition. I thought awhile back Criterion announced that a longer cut of the film might debut with the new edition from them. Oh I can't wait for the upcoming Bluray BFI edition !!!

But the whole POINT of ordering from the States is to get the American discs (especially when I want to avoid those horrific bilingual Artisan covers). If I wanted Canadian discs, I'd just pick 'em up at the local retail store, or order from Amazon.ca.

I was wondering about that the other day. Why are people still bidding on the original Criterion release? It's ridiculously inferior to the new Criterion disc isn't it?

You'd have to be an insanely obsessive collector to knowingly shell out a wad of cash for a overwhelmingly inferior product simply for completion's sake, but the key word is "knowingly". It always amazes me how unaware people are of newer editions of films. I sold my first run edition of The Third Man for $17.98 on Amazon after the newer edition was released. I also sold a couple of R2 titles for around $50.00 each, when both could be had for $12.00 per from Amazon's UK site. You'd think people savvy enough to own a region-free player would at least check a title's price on Amazon.co.uk first.

As a completist, I'm looking to buy the The Killer Criterion. It hasn't come down in price.

I got Salo over the weekend. Haven't watched it yet. There's a sticker on it saying "Warning: Explicit Content" The cover art isn't as clear as looks on the internet. I think it's one of those things that can be seen better from farther away.

That does strike me as strange. Maybe just the sheer rarity of that edition?

Well I mean, I voted for that but that was just a general "yes I'm going to get it soon" but I didn't get it TODAY.

I looked at the weekend ads and none of the stores seem to be carrying it. Does anyone know of any off line stores that would carry it? I mean its not a xxx rated film so i dont see why this isnt being sold???

^ I would check Barnes & Nobles. They seem to have a pretty extensive up-to-date criterion section.
