Oh happy day!
One of the best attributes of Blu-ray, is that you don't always have to double check to make sure you are buying the disc with proper widescreen or OAR presentation.

You're right and the BR version was cropped to 1.78:1. In my opinion, this is the new concern and the advent of BR hasn't really changed anything. Whether the black bars are on top and bottom or on the sides, there still seems to be some desire to fill the entire television screen and the delivery media has little to do with it.
