The Last Temptation of Christ - Criterion Collection Subtitle?

Hello,

Can't seem to get the subtitle to play. Not sure what's wrong, otherwise it plays perfectly fine. I use my remote to set the HoH english subtitle but it simply put won't play.

It's a bit annoying since I want to get the most out of this movie that i've been looking forward seeing for a long while.

plmk
Thanks, KLK

Not to sound like an idiot, but did you try activating the subtitles from the set-up menu?

When Christ came out, I remember reading about there being a problem with the DVD; the problem was easily fixable at home, but I'm not sure if it was the subtitles.

EDIT: The subtitles work fine on my copy.

My question would be if it's just my copy that's not working or all of them.

In the back of the case it clearly reads, - English subtitles for the deaf and hearing impaired

EDIT: I must be missing something very obvious. I don't see a set-up menu. Play movie, Chapters then all the extras below on the Main menu list.

From the Criterion website:

"Due to a manufacturing flaw on the first printing of The Last Temptation of Christ, subtitles do not appear on 16x9 televisions. This flaw has been corrected on all subsequent printings of this DVD."

This might be your problem. If you email Criterion I'm sure they'll exchange your disc for a new version.

Ah. Thanks, that proves that i'm not mental. I'll e-mail 'em and hear what they have to say even thought i'm located in Sweden.

Thanks for the help.

Try it out, but I don't think they can legally replace it for you. Criterion's distribution rights do not extend to Sweden.

EDIT: I'm fairly certain I've seen this issue crop up over at criterionforum.org, and you need to find someone you trust with a US/Canadian address to do the exchange for you.

The subtitles not showing up on first printing is known to them.
I live in Japan, and when they sent wrong-sized boxes for the Rohmer set,
they still sent me a new box. Try it, they might do it.

Fabulous. I followed the instructions in the link and was able to view the subtitles and the movie now. Thanks for the help, much appreciated.
