Anchor Bay's: Hercules, Xena, and Highlander OOP?
I was at a used CD/DVD store the other night and they like to label their OOP or import shit as 'collectable'. I saw this on these sets and when I looked em up, theyre not listed as available. Sucks cause I had planned to get Xena and Highlander when they dropped in price ala Hercules. What gives?

If you are talking CD Exchange they tend to exaggerate a lot on what is collectible. Had no idea these were out of print. Hercules had been dirt cheap for awhile so I think those sets can be found online used for well under $20.
They also don't always know what they have. I bought an boxset there for $20 that had been out of print for 6 years and sold it for $150.

The Origins of Film collection.
They had it marked $19.99 and I sold it on Half.com for $149.99.
A review of it is below. It has been out of print a long time and doesn't pop up on Ebay very often so they probably missed its importance. One of the ones I was at a couple of months ago had some OOP Criterions marked as collectible, but they were only OOP because better versions came out and the originals were not valuable at all. I do find some decent deals at CD Exchange on Blu-ray movies and since the thiefs sell there weekly you can usually get the new releases for 50% off of MSRP and in mint condition.

I'm a huge Xena fan, so I bought the sets as they were released. But I've noticed that even in recent years the prices have yet to fall below $30 unless you go the eBay route. I don't think they will ever be as low as the Hurcules sets. I own 2 seasons of Hurcules and the I think the Xena sets are far superior. Hercules has few commentaries here and there, but the Xena sets (except for season 1) have interviews for almost every episode. They also offer video/audio commentaries for at least one out of every three episodes. Plus on top of that there are behind the scenes stuff, bloopers, and other little features here and there.
So you figure they had to pay everyone for doing the interviews and commentaries and the people who helped put together all the special behind the scenes stuff. I'm guessing this is what casues the prices to be on the higher side.
I would go ahead and get them if you really want them. Definately worth the price IMO. Probably the most watched DVDs in my collection. I hope this helps.
