I'd rather have a premium figure or statue instead of a toy with all the interchangeable parts and accessories. Very curious to see what this looks like but all the extras make it seem like a cheaply made figure that will just be overpriced to make the most money following the films sudden success.

But by all means Hasbro....prove me wrong and make me order this toy!

This is purely for the action figure. No DVD is included with this set. I think I may have to pre-order one. It sounds friggin' sweet.

It says collectible packaging .. I take that to mean that the box may look like a building or something that highlights the figure (for those who prefer not to open it)

Sounds like I'm going to have to blind buy this (I don't go to theaters anymore).

Wasn't this filmed using a handheld camera? Would a high def DVD of it really mean anything? I also heard there was a ton of camera shaking on it (so much that one reviewer got nausea from it!).

Multiple cameras is right. Much of the movie was shot with the prosumer Panasonic HVX200, with the Viper and Sony CineArts both doing duty for shots that required CGI. A detailed and interesting article about Cloverfield's cinematography can be found here.

This is one that I'm glad I saw in a theater with a good sound system. It makes fantastic use of subwoofers that can go very deep and very loud.

Handheld, yes, but still high definition. This is definitely one I'm looking forward to owning on high-def.

sorry to upset you so.

doesn't this say basically what you did without going into detail about the specific models?

"much of the film (yes, a few other cameras were used, too) was really shot on Sony's flagship, absolute top of the line CineAlta HD camera"

my point was that nodeerforamonth seemed to be under the impression that a run of the mill consumer camera was used.

I would know. I get motion sick on those rides like "Back to the Future" at Universal Studios. I did not get motion sick during Cloverfield. Just sit farther back than normal and enjoy the ride!

I have limited free time and can only watch so many movies. Since I can't predict the future, I don't know ahead of time whether I'll like it or not. If people I trust say it's good, I'll invest my time.

I saw Cloverfield projected digitally and I wouldn't expect the HD release to be demo quality when it comes to the picture. The limitations of the camera are almost always apparent, especially in regards to noise in the low light shooting. Whites bloom out in a bluish sort of way. I'm glad this wasn't the first film I've seen projected digitally because it did not do the system that our local theater has installed any justice at all. (Though that was obviously intended by the filmmakers.)

The soundtrack was something else. Wow, that was cooked! IMO a more natural sound scape would have been nice. I'm a bit confused about why they went for such a great realistic video look and then went so overboard with the sound.

I was only dizzy for the first two minutes or so. I think a lot of the reviews whine far too much about that effect of the film.

^^^

Haha, that's putting it mildly, but whatever. They're trying to get more people to get the HD versios, which is all cool.
I wonder how Cloverfield would look in high definition...is there even a point?
Maybe, if anything, it can only be viewed in high definition because you'd want clarity and sharpness for all the frenetic action going on.
