Fritz Lang's M - Book With DVD
I suppose this could have gone in the books forum or even the comic book forum, but since I thought it might be of primary interest to DVD fans, I thought I'd post it here.
Creators: Jon J. Muth. Description: Jon Muth's four-issue mini-series from 1990, based on Fritz Lang's suspense thriller, M, is collected for the first time in hardcover, and is packaged with a bonus DVD of the original 1931 film starring Peter Lorre! In Fritz Lang's first sound film M (1931), Peter Lorre delivers a haunting performance as a serial killer - a whistling pedophile hunted by the police and brought to trial by the forces of the Berlin underworld. In 1990, a young artist, Jon J. Muth, continued his rise in the comic book industry by adapting the story into four comics published by Eclipse Comics. Long out-of-print, the adaptation has never been collected before. 192 pages. (7x10)
I am not sure what edition of the movie it is...if it's the Criterion version or a new transfer or what.
I got the first two issues of the graphic novel back in the day. The artwork was AWESOME and it was because of that work I got exposed to the movie in the first place. I am thrilled it's finally being collected.
(If I recall right, the first issue of the graphic novel had a flexi disc in it that had the whistling song from the movie.)

This looks like it could really be neat. I have never heard about this before, though I am a big fan of the film. Thanks for introducing me to the hardcover collection. Anyone else recommend this as a blind buy?

Here is an image of the cover of the first graphic novel.
I can assure you the artwork within is just as amazing.
I can't find samples of the pages, but here is a website of samples of Muth's work.

The first issue came with a flexi disc album. I don't remember much else on it other than the whistling. I wonder if I still have that....
Doesn't surprise me that a DVD is coming with it since he obviously likes to package other media in with the release of this story.
I am surprised that this is coming though, I had completely forgotten about these comics.

As much as I enjoy the film, I wonder who actually sat down and said to himself "Gee... let's make a comic from a 75 year old movie about a killer pedophile. That'll be swell!"
It looks pretty cool but seems like an odd choice. Metropolis would make more sense.

I've been waiting for them to reprint this gorgeous comic book ever since I discovered I could no longer find my old issues. I remember the first one came with a flexi-disc record, too, and in addition to the whistling, I think it had a guitar rendition of "In the Hall of the Mountain King." It's been a while, though...
So, yeah for this!
