No One?
But in all seriousness, just start using CH for all your dvd purchases, that will cut your cost per dvd down to about 5.50

Damn 31, you're past early adulthood. Seriously though, I applaud a willingness to stick to a budget. Don't buy stuff on credit. It'll bite you in the ass. Just think, another 20 years you'll be 50 and planning your funeral like rw2516.

You know we all have a budget unless you're filthy rich and don't think about money. I'm also 31, married, with a little kid. Certainly I can't spend the amount I'd like to for DVDs. A year ago I had about 400 titles in my wishlist and it's exactly the same today - the list refills faster or with the same speed I buy DVDs. And I so much want to just track new releases and buy them instead of trying to compliate all I want that was shot 10-20-30 years ago. But that is life - we have to limit ourselves
Or get rich.
Or get rich.

Well, Im in a similar boat and always fall off my budget towards the middle of the year... Sad thing is, my wife and I make over 6 figures, but our early problems w/ credit and one income while she went to school are really starting to put a hamper in our lives. So this year's budget is one Im really sticking to. Plus, there isnt possibly anything else I need.

Welcome to my world. I realized several years ago that buying movies the week they are released is not wise as 1. they will be half that price in a few months, 2. there will be a much better version in about a year, 2. the movie probably sucks anyway.

I'm 38 and my girlfriend is 33. We've been together for almost 11 years and living together for 9 years. We have no pressing need to get married because neither of us wants kids. Our combined income is well enough over six figures. Living in Atlanta isn't dirt cheap, but it's not Manhattan either.
No kids, decent income = more than enough disposable income. That's the solution, people: stop breeding!

Hey, I still like family guy. I think not buying the week of release has been one of my biggest hurdles. Mainly because I can always find a good price the week of release, but wait any longer and its even more $. Secondly it seems that the movies I want almost never come down in price... unless I get them used. And that isn't a bad way to go, but you have to watch the video stores and see when they are having their sales.

It's been a long time since I could count on five bucks in my pocket to carry me through a day. Where to you eat? Taco Bell? Dollar menu at McDonald's?

I put myself on a budget for the first half of 2008. It's going well so far and while there have been a few temptations I just sit back and wait.
The only thing really tempting me is the Saw IV DE at Target. But we'll see. May hold off on the Bluray disc price drop whenever that may be.

If you are tight on money, I would practice not being seduced by the more special editions, more extras, nice packaging. Just start buying single disc editions. Remember, you don't need to see extras for every single movie, just the ones you really really like.

My advice as a student and a workaholic? Shop around. Realize you don't have to buy everything this week. Remember that DVDs usually go down over time and if not, there's always June and November.

Eh, DVD's go down in price over time but there's new stuff that comes out every week. For the next few years, I'm going to be on a tight budget, also due to credit and school loans. It sucks but, my DVD collection is already pretty damn large, to the point where I already filtered a lot of stuff out since the summer. Looking to dwindle it even more.
But yeah, I'm beginning to realise I don't need to buy every single DVD I want to own and see. There are certain things I know I want, and that's fine, I'll buy them, but I'm going to do Netflix soon for everything else. Example for this, would be the third resident evil, I wouldn't mind seeing it but no way in hell am I going to pay money to own that.
