Robot Chicken: Star Wars - May 20th

I haven't seen this posted yet, and I figured with all the talk of the Family Guy spoof that this other Star Wars special was worthy of a post.

Release date, Extras, etc
Cover Art

We've learned that Warner Home Video is planning a special DVD release for Robot Chicken - Star Wars, due to arrive on May 20th. This single-disc release will include the special itself - 30 minutes of sketches - plus around an hour's worth of special features:

* Video Commentary
* Animation Meeting
* On-Air Bumps
* Trailers
* Behind The Scenes
* Deleted Scenes
* Alternate Audio
* Time Lapse
* Photo Gallery
* Panel Presentations
* Episode Commentary

Cost will be just $14.97 SRP.

This will make a nice companion DVD for Family Guy's Blue Harvest.

The original show time was a full half our rather than the normal 15 minutes.

Will this episode, like the Blue Harvest episode of Family Guy, eventually make its way to the inevitable next season set that will be released?

If so, it is really worth buying twice?

Especially since they changed the end of Blue Harvest on the DVD release to show...

Spoiler:
...an exchange between Peter and Chris about how Robot Chicken's Star Wars spoof was actually shown on TV three months earlier than Family Guy's.

What was changed for the DVD release? That's exactly what happened when the episode originally aired.

Since this will hopefully be cheap on release day ($10?), I'll get this. The show was good and I'm a sucker for commentaries anyway...

Really? I listened to the commentary, and I thought they said they changed that for the DVD release. I honestly don't remember how it ended when it was on TV. Maybe the dialogue is a little different, or extended.

EDIT: Ok...I listened to it again, and I must have misunderstood what they were talking about. They said they had a different ending, and wound up using this one, which means they apparently settled on the Robot Chicken exchange for the TV airing and subsequent DVD release.

My bad.

The end of the TV version definitely had the Peter/Chris exchange. I don't have the DVD yet, so as you said, it's possible that it's extended or something.

While I thought Robot Chicken's tribute to Star Wars was funnier than Family Guy's, I'm not so sure if it's worth purchasing on a stand-alone DVD. Maybe if they included the recent "Han/Vader/Lando/Leia at the Dinner Table" sketch as a bonus or something.

So...if I'm buying the show on Season Sets, should this be included later on, or will I also need to purchase disc to have all the Robot Chicken material?

The first half to two thirds of the episode was good. The last few sketches were not all that great...it really lost steam.

And this really could have waited for the season set.

My guess, and it really is just a guess, is that the special itself will probably end up on a set at some point as a bonus. However, this is probably worth picking up for the special features, which I really doubt would get put in a set. Besides, with a $14.97 MSRP this release will probably be around $10 on release and probably cheaper than that if you have a little patience.
