Pizza, I bought the anamorphic first disc of the 3-disc Criterion Collection of Brazil during a Deep Discount DVD 50 percent off sale and got it for around $14.00. Then I just switched it out with the one in the box. I have yet to sell off the non-anamorphic version on e-bay but someday when I'm feeling energetic I will. The rest of the material in the Brazil box is full screen anyway so no need to replace the whole box.

The Star Wars Trilogy
Thief (R1 and R2 - R2 is really bad, taken from an old LD master probably, but it's the cinema cut)
Spaceballs - the anamorphic SE is expensive, will get around to it
the old Dawn of the Dead
a few others

After the release last year of a special edition of home alone that WAS anamorphic. I was hoping this year they'd release Home Alone 2. I guess the ball got dropped, as it would have been a great opportunity for them to make some money off christmas movie fans and those like me, who want to replace old non anamorphic titles.

I did the exact same thing in buying the newer 1-disc to replace the first disc in my "Brazil" boxed set (in fact, I think that's the main reason Criterion even released a 1-disc version of the new anamorphic transfer: as a favor to us fans who bought originally the 3-disc collection so we could relatively cheaply upgrade the set to anamorphic).

I have too many to count, and it seems there's more all the time. The last three DVDs I reviewed for DVDTalk were all non-anamorphic, oddly enough.

The Abyss
Annie Hall
Emma
Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story
Mighty Aphrodite
Psycho (waiting for the rumored single disc reissue)
Vertigo (waiting for the rumored single disc reissue)
Raising Arizona
Sliding Doors
Charade (Criterion first print - I got a cheap The Truth About Charlie to get an anamorphic copy of the movie and kept the Criterion for the features)

I've been able to upgrade:
Four Weddings and a Funeral
The Graduate (finally!)

I got rid of:
Good Will Hunting (hoping to get the Canadian release one day or a reissued release here)
The Last Emperor (anticipating the February Criterion release)

The Abyss- one of the best quality non-anamorphic DVD's, so I haven't really complained

Star Wars (original cuts) almost unwatchable on an HDTV

Has anyone bought the John Candy set to see if The Great Outdoors is actually anamorphic? Box says so, but you know how that goes....

Abyss, True Lies, Capricorn One, Dracula v. Frankenstein, Spartacus (I know the Criterion is available but too expensive) are titles I would love an upgrade on.

The only ones I have left are the absolutely lame MGM Midnight Movie releases, where one movie is anamorphic and the other is just letterbox. Holding onto them in hopes they go OOP.

Those programs only make "fake anamorphic" versions of the film. There's no way for them to add resolution and you can't get any resolution from what's not there. All you have is a stretched picture flagged for 16:9.

The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Doors
The Lonely Guy

I just got a widescreen TV in January, so it's only recently become an issue. I'll replace them if/when they come out on Blu-ray.
