I can't believe we don't get trailers for movies anymore. The Kanye West "Jesus Walks" trailer for Jarhead was great, but it's not to be found on the Jarhead disc. Ugh.

Until you mentioned it, I hadn't even noticed they were gone. They were fun to have, though. As the trailers would have been nearly free to include, any idea why they aren't?

Their market research probably said people don't care about them. People who feel that way see them as an advertisement for the movie they already bought. It's a shame.

If the trailer has music, the studio might have to cut another deal/check with the band that was featured. That might be one reason some get dumped.

I'll throw in another vote for trailers, and I'm a bit behind on Pixar movies, but will be watching Ratatouille tonight, so I'm casting a pre-emptive vote for decent extras on Pixar DVDs.

Actually, I also miss "exclusive bonus DVDs" that actually have meaningful content. I'm speaking of course of Seinfeld, where the first two bonus featurettes were included as easter eggs on later season sets, and the final "screw you" was a best-of compilation of bloopers, ALL of which had appeared on the season sets. What a waste!!!

The studios would rather use the trailer space to sell you movies you didn't already buy.

Does "not charging extra for the second disk" count?

I miss the visual commentaries that were on Men in Black and Muppets From Space and Ghostbusters. Sony abandoned that concept.

Those were okay, but now with the picture-in-picture visual commentaries available on HD-DVD (and Blu-ray?), the silhouettes seem a little low-tech.

'1941' has the entire soundtrack on the disc? How do I get to it? Is it the 'chapter stops' kind of a deal or what?

I went to look for it and was befuddled that I couldn't find it. It turns out I happened upon the easter egg by accident. Here's how to find it.

From the disc's main menu go to the 'Language Selection' and there select 'Spoken Language'. As one of the entries you will then see 'Isolated music score'. Select it and you will be able to enjoy John Williams' fabulous score in its entirety!
Looking at that disc again, I also miss seeing the various posters and artwork for the movies on DVDs. That was always something I enjoyed looking at.

Documentaries that would actually run longer than 30 minutes- instead of just a bunch of lightweight featurettes with a 'Play All' option. But I believe the latter approach allows studios to avoid paying extra, and that's probably a factor in the disappearing trailers as well. (Nice to see that the Die Hard 4 release, apparently, has an honest-to-God documentary included.)

I think I've only ever seen one DVD that used the "multiple angles" feature (ghostbusters. I know there's more but that's the only one I've ever seen). What a waste of great potential.

I miss the promotional featurettes (HBO First Look, Comedy Central' Reel Comedy or Canned Ham).
These are occasionally well done and i don't understand why they are not included more often. The Darjeeling Limited Comedy Central spacial is something i hope for very much to see when the DVD comes out. I remember they used to put the HBO specials on a lot of DVD's nut now that rarely happens for some reason. I also still remember the canned ham special they had for Nurse Betty and was sad that that was not included on the DVD when that came out many years ago.
But yeah, i would definitely like to see more of these included on their respective DVD's.

I remember when you could buy a double disc set on release day for about $13.99-$16.99, give or take. Now the single disc version is $13.99-$16.99 and the double disc is $22.99-$24.99. This is in general but most companies seem to be doing this now.

I don't care so much about special features, I just wish they put inserts with chapter stops in them like they used to.

Alternate Angles used to feature on a few discs. Don't see it at all anymore though!

Those 8-page trivia booklets that MGM used to do were nice. I wish we still got those.
