What's with the constant hate for TDB? They have been around since the beginning, have been tireless in their campaign for OAR, I seem to recall they were the first to break the news about the original Star Wars movies being non-anamorphic, and everybody laughed at them until LFL fessed up, and they were tireless in their fight to have it fixed (I don't think less of them for not succeeding, seeing as they were going against the Lucas juggernaut).

They may not update as often as I'd like, but they've been a constant presence in my DVD hobby for years.

For me, it's the ridiculous emphasis on high def. You'd think that normal dvd was the niche product given the ratio of coverage he gives.

That and the constant splooging over bluray. "My bluray player has a cool looking LED that lights up when I turn it on! Isn't that dreamy? It's just one more sign that shows how inferior hd-dvd is!". The guy pretends to be unbiased, and ludicrously pronounced the hd wars were over something like 6 months ago. It was obvious to anyone with a brain who isn't on either side that both sides would be in this for a *long* time to come.

As someone who doesn't have either hd system, there simply isn't any reason to visit there any more.

They do cover hi-def as if it was going out of style, but being sick of hearing his opinions on Blu-Ray and disagreeing with them are two different claims. I think The Digital Bits has good coverage of the format war, and, for the record, constantly note that the format war is just beginning.

I like thedigitalbits but I do agree that they are treating regular DVDs now as an afterthought.

Is our hobby slowly dying? It seems like everything is closing down...

DVD has grown by leaps and bounds since the 90's, and with hundreds of companies releasing thousands of films/shows/whatever a year across the world, it can be quite easy to get burned out, especially if you have to prepare and code things like press releases and cover galleries, like DavisDVD did; the fact that it was a one-man operation probably wasn't helping, either.

Does the release list on this website not work. Top left corner has a link, the list is broken down by week

dx23 02-27-08 02:15 PM

My understanding is that the site is completely down. I think the owner let the hosting expire.
