Resident Evil: Extinction --> January 2nd, 2008!

More specs to follow, but it will be released on January 2nd, 2008 in a standard DVD version (looks like no unrated version), Blu-Ray, a Blu-Ray 3-pack of all RE titles, and UMD.

Should be fun!

Willh51 10-05-07 10:19 PM

They love that date, I know Apocalypse 2-disc was around that time too. I don't think I'll be getting this one, although it was entertaining enough.

Living Dead 10-06-07 03:39 AM

I actually liked this one the best of the three. But I can only hope that they will either remove the horrible CG enhanced Milla close-ups, or that they won't look as awful on a smaller screen.

It's a sad day when a director feels he has to "enhance" the face of a woman as beautiful as her. It accomplished nothing except making her look creepy and expressionless.

Seantn 10-06-07 09:56 AM

At the very least, hopefully they address it in the commentary, by either Milla or Paul Anderson or the director.

alfonsosoriano 10-06-07 10:11 AM

That was quick!

islandclaws 10-06-07 10:15 AM

Quick turnaround. I might grab this one up once it gets cheap enough. I'm just not a huge fan of the series, but it is entertaining. The trailer for this one looked bad, so if (when) it hits $10 I'll pick it up.

Giles 10-06-07 10:42 AM

well at least I can say I saw it In 2007. I enjoyed this film more than I thought I would, definately better than RE 2, by a long stretch.

SPIDERone 10-06-07 03:14 PM

Thanks for the release date! Saw this one in the theaters and looking forward to the Blu Ray.

I just hope the first film makes it to Blu Ray by itself. I already own Apocalypse on blu ray so I can't justify buying the entire box again.

uncle-frank 10-06-07 03:23 PM

that was fast, i might get this one, my favorite out of the 3 forsure.

indy2029 10-06-07 05:48 PM

I knew something was up w/ Milla's face close-up...It was too flawless esp compared to everyone else. I liked Ali Larter too in the movie.

This was definitely the best of the three. The effects were better too. Count me in for the Blu Ray 3 pack!

Dr Mabuse 10-06-07 05:54 PM

for what these are... popcorn... kinda 'music video' style horror...

i find 'em entertaining...

i still think the first is the best...

but i saw this one in theatre...

i'll probably get it to complete the three...

this third one seemed broken up... trying too many different things and it seemed uncertain where it was going...

Peep 10-06-07 08:37 PM

I'm in!

matome 10-09-07 07:56 AM

Picking up the Blu-Ray for sure. I love this series.

FantasticVSDoom 10-09-07 11:05 AM

I may bite on 3-disc BD pack as I liked this one for what it was... I have to say I remember enjoying the first one but I dont think Ive seen the 2nd however.

Big Worms 10-09-07 11:26 AM

3 pack BD for me.

Swarty 10-09-07 11:31 AM

I think this is the best in the series thus far. I was a little worried since there were no reviews prior to release. Always a bad sign.

Milla did look goofy. She would get in all sorts of gun fights and never mess up her makeup.

It was the cheapest movie I have seen this year. $10 movie cash and $5 popcorn money with the DVD.

Later
Swarty

avrilfan 10-09-07 11:58 AM

will get the 3 pk. on BD for me as well. I think its cool that Milla will have done commentries for all three films(wonder if the first film with have commentary as well ported over from the dvd?) anyway, a blu buy for sure.

Kevin M. Dean 10-09-07 02:57 PM

Shouldn't the date be Jan 1st since the 2nd is a Wednesday?

Further Details:
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced Resident Evil: Extinction which stars Milla Jovovich, and Ali Larter. The third installment of this videogame-based series will be available to own from the 1st January, and should retail at around $28.95. The film itself will be presented in anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. Extras will include a filmmaker commentary, four making of featurettes (Alice Vision: Preproduction, The Big Bang: Shooting Resident Evil: Extinction, Bigger, Faster, Stronger: The Undead Evolve, and Vegas Visual Effects: Miniatures), deleted scenes, and a sneak peak at Resident Evil: Degeneration, the first Resident Evil CGI feature film.

A Blu-ray edition will also be available for $38.96. This will include all of the above, along with a picture in picture feature, and Blu-wizard 2.0 which lets you customize the way you watch the special features.

First blu-ray of 2008!

starseed1981 11-13-07 07:51 PM

I'll bite on the Trilogy Blu-Ray. I love these films, mindless horror popcorn action.

mikelowry 11-14-07 05:22 AM

Not a fan of the RE series. I'll probably rent it.

The first two were good, but not great. I havent seen number 3 yet but ill pick it up if the price is right.

Yavin 11-21-07 09:04 AM

As usual, the cover art is disappointing. I really liked the silhouette outline of Milla used for the original theatrical poster art.

Dai 11-22-07 10:32 PM

Milla = Must buy!!

chris_sc77 11-25-07 08:39 PM

It sucks that there is no Commentary by Milla this time. That was my favorite part of the other disks. All we get is the one Commentary with the Director, Producer, and Producer/Writer.
I could have sworn i saw somewhere that she did a commentary for this with Oded Fehr. This better not be some damn Blu-ray exclusive!!!!!

Yavin 01-03-08 02:42 PM

So did anyone buy this release? I went to Best Buy today and they still had a full shelf of them tagged at $19.99. I liked the first film and the trailer for Extinction made it seem fairly entertaining. Since I bought the 2-pack of the first two films yesterday for $9.99 I figured I'd bite on Extinction for $19.99. Seems like an ok deal for all three films for $30 ... I'll leave them unopened for now to see if buyer's remorse sets in ...

Maxflier 01-03-08 03:14 PM

If they charged you $19.99 then they jipped you out of a few bucks, it is on sale this week. And yes, I picked it up on Tuesday (w/ the free tote bag from BB). I enjoyed this one quite a bit.

They jipped me because I'm in Canada ;)

Oh sorry, I didn't think they had Best Buys in Canada.

Best Buy, Wal*Mart, Lowes ... your US chains have invaded our territories ... the only one that tried and failed was Krispy Kreme (due to its inability to compete with the mighty Tim Hortons) ...

Anyway, back to the topic. It is very odd Sony didn't release a DVD trilogy boxset with all three films (like they did on Blu-Ray). I would have liked a comparatively inexpensive way of getting all 3 films on DVD in such a way that the first two were on separate discs (instead of having them both on one disc as they are in the 'Resurrected' 2-pack).

JAYARE 01-04-08 02:31 AM

gamestops that sell dvds have it with a bonus disc but its 24.99

I was also surprised by this. Maybe they just assumed it was too early for another re-packaging (with the Resurrected pack just coming out a few months ago)?

There was a previous "bundle" of the first and 2nd movies:

But I havent seen it for sale for about a year now.

Like you said, I was also disappointed by having both films on a single disc with the Resurrected pack (but it still didn't stop me from buying it - a quadruple dip for me. The blu ray makes it a quintuple (?) dip :p )

Not to divert the thread or anything, but have you compared how any of the films look on upconverted SD-DVD versus how the Blu-Rays look? I've only watched one upconverted SD-DVD so far (that was not RE) and I was disappointed by the results. I was hoping that watching the RE films on upconverted SD-DVD would fare better than that experience. Of course, I'm not expecting Blu-Ray quality, but something "near HD-quality" would be nice.

matome 01-04-08 10:36 AM

The Resident Evil DVD's look pretty damn good upconverted, though the Blu-Rays easily outshine them. I have all of them on both DVD and Blu-Ray (well, Resident Evil 3 is on Blu-Ray only for me since that just came out).

That's good news. I guess as long as I haven't seen them in true HD then I shouldn't be disappointed in the upconverted SD-DVDs. It's definitely true that once you see a film in proper HD you can never go back to SD ...

SPIDERone 01-04-08 11:30 AM

I wasn't terribly impressed with the 2nd film on Blu Ray (it was almost exactly a year ago that it was released, and I think that was right when Sony was making their transition from 25 GB MPEG 2 transfer to 50GB AVC transfers). Not bad by any means, but I think it wouldve been a lot nicer looking if done using their current methods (on the bright side, it's often found for $10 during the Buy One Get One sales or at Frys). RE3 looks fantastic on Blu Ray and RE1 should be arriving today. From what I've seen of each film (through the actual discs of the HD trailers) I'm not upset in the least bit that I.. quintuple dipped :p

I've personally been pleased with upconverted SD (in most cases) but really it isnt a comparison to HD with the exception of some of the very early titles which had poor compression, transfers and low image quality.

kaze0 01-04-08 01:54 PM

The blu ray box set looks awful. The slipcase itself, not the video. It's so boring and ugly
