And back to Paramount for a moment, we've got some new details for you on the studio's forthcoming Zødiac: Director's Cut (due 1/8/08). The 2-disc set will feature a version of the film that's 162 minutes long (for the record, that's 4 minutes longer than the theatrical version). Extras will include audio commentary by director David Fincher, a second commentary by Jake Gyllenhall, Robert Downey Jr., producer Brad Fischer, James Vanderbilt and James Ellroy, 3 The Film featurettes (Zødiac Deciphered, The Visual Effects of Zødiac and Digital Workflow), 3 Sequence Breakdowns (Blue Rock Springs, Lake Berryessa and San Francisco), 5 The Facts featurettes (This is the Zødiac Speaking, Lake Herman Road, Blue Rock Springs, Lake Berryessa and San Francisco), 4 Prime Suspect featurettes (His Name Was Arthur Leigh Allen, Linguistic Analysis, Jeopardy Surface: Geographic Profiling and The Psychology of Aggression: Behavioral Profiling), 2 text-based features (Special Agent Sharon Pagaling-Hagan's Behavioral Profile of the Zødiac and Dr. Kim Rossmo's Geographic Profile of the Zødiac) and the film's theatrical trailer. Audio will be Dolby Digital 5.1 on the DVD version, and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 on the HD-DVD. All of the video-based special features will be in HD on the HD-DVD version.

This was pretty much my favorite movie of the year until Across The Universe totally won me over, but I resisted the urge to pick up the DVD knowing that this was on the horizon. While I'd preferably like to have both cuts of the movie, this is the one I'll be purchasing come January. Definitely can't (but will) wait for this one.

There's no way that's the final cover, it looks hideous.

You know that means SWEET packaging, kind of like the two-disc Fight Club.

well...cool packaging but the idea of it has been used before and the bright artwork color doesn't really suit the movie...i prefer the above artwork but they should add smaller fonts.

EDIT: according to amazon.com,the price has been reduced from $39.99 to $34.99.

cool.

HD packaging better be the same. I can't wait to finally own a copy of this after holding out on the theatrical cut.

the cover art is cool and all, but please let there be a new transfer.
that's all i really care about honestly. 99.9% of my dvd's lives are spent on a shelf and the viewable spine serves one purpose - title.

I will be picking this up on the 8th. Perhaps a late birthday or Christmas present to myself.

That cover art is pretty cool. I wish for the HD-DVD release they would just use the theatrical poster. It's one of the greatest posters I've seen that sums up the entire movie in the image.

Love the cover art! I can't wait until Jan 8. I've resisted buying this movie so far and this can't come out soon enough. Can't wait until I can finally see this movie on my shelf.

WOW! That cover art is amazing. If it's a digipak then it will probably be one of the nicest covers in my collection, or at least of the Ficher DVDs. And it's much better than that keepcase image with the border around the poster art that we saw a while back.

Glad I held off purchasing the bare-bones version. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm definitely buying this one.
