Superbad?

Anybody know when Superbad is going to be released on DVD?

madcougar 09-12-07 08:17 AM

I've been wanting to check this one out at the movies, but it ain't gonna happen. It's going to have to be a blind buy. Hope we don't have to wait too long.

acubfaninmd 09-12-07 08:49 AM

I haven't seen it either so it is going to be a blind buy for me to. From what I've heard from other people its one of the funniest movies in a while. I like Knocked Up and 40 year old virgin so i think I will like it.

matome 09-12-07 09:23 AM

videoeta lists it as December for now and they're usually pretty accurate. I'm sure Mao will chime in with the exact date as soon as he has confirmation as well.

Matthew Chmiel 09-12-07 12:14 PM

I have a feeling that it will be out either the Tuesday before Christmas or the Tuesday right after Christmas. The more "adult" comedies (such as the American Pie films, Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, and The 40-Year-Old Virgin) have made a killing in DVD sales by being released the week after Christmas. I would assume Sony knows this and will probably be placing Superbad in that time frame.

I hope very soon. Knocked Up (2-disc version, of course) this month will have to tide me over. Haven't EVER laughed as hard at the movies as I did at this one.

With that being the case, you should definitely enjoy this one. It's my least favorite of the 3, but I still really enjoyed it.

critterdvd 09-12-07 01:10 PM

I had zero expectations going into this film and laughed myself silly. But saying that I did go to the theater and second time to watch the movie and unfortunately it doesn't hold up very well to repeated viewings...

Dane Marvin 09-12-07 01:21 PM

^ I went a second time and still laughed my balls off. There was some stuff I missed the first time due to my laughter at one joke carrying over too long. It's true there's no time like the first time with this movie, but I believe there will be much replay value as there are with projects from the same group (Freaks & Geeks, 40 Year Old Virgin, etc.) -- especially since I'm 99% sure the DVD will treat us to an extended/unrated cut.

chris_sc77 09-12-07 01:33 PM

I was really dissapointed by this movie and i am a big fan of Fraks & Geeks, Undeclared, 40-y.o. Virgin, and Knocked up.
The 1st 20 minutes or so were good but then it became very silly and extremely unrealistic and the characters were so over the top it became unfunny and annoying.
So, i would definitely advise a rent before purchase on this but thats just like my opinion man.

mijorico 09-12-07 01:47 PM

Seeing how it was released theatrically around the same time of year 40-Year-Old Virgin was, I'd say the DVD will probably come out about the same time as well. Best guess, sometime in December. Since it's a movie many teenagers will want, I'd say it's released before Christmas.

I thought the first twenty minutes weren't all that, and then the film became even more unfunny and annoying.

vastly overrated comedy if you ask me, made me want to rent 'Freeks and Geeks'

the first and last 20 minutes of the movie are the best IMO, and I think the movie is a little too long. But yes, by the end I had an incredily overwhelming desire to Bitch-slap one of the main characters.

Thats exactly the way i felt about knocked up. Thought Superbad was 10 times funnier.

Zen Peckinpah 09-12-07 03:43 PM

And it's a given that HD McLovin will not be cockblocked.

Agree. If you like 90 minutes of profanity and dick jokes then it's perfect. Knocked Up was slightly better imo, although both are C/C- territory for me.

Oakland 09-13-07 10:44 AM

Went in with no expectations, and absolutely loved it. I became the guy in the theatre laughing so uncontrollably hard that people stopped watching the movie and began watching me.

I offer no apologies.

Can't wait for the DVD.

C/C-? I'm going to venture a guess, and offer some advice for those who haven't seen both:

You are in the minority if this movie was anywhere near a 'C' for you. I would say 3/4 people who saw these movies would have given the movies a solid 'B'. I know you are entitled to your own opinions, and that is fine. I would just like to point out the general public would probably strongly disagree with you.

the general public also loved Pixar's 'Cars' - that was a C- bordering on a D in my book... I'd give Superbad a C as well. At the Saturday morning screening of 'Superbad' I was at, I saw two couple walk out of the movie, not even half way through, never to return.

I thought the first act was hysterical, the second act okay and the third act pretty funny. If it has good bonus features I'll buy it. I hated Knocked Up, though.

I hope to God that I am nowhere close to the general public.

The general public thinks that Cars and Transformers, and other mainstream mediocrity is great, and wouldn't set foot in a foreign film or such.

Shoot me if I ever become the general public.

But yes, I understand that fine, discerning people could possibly love all the movies that I just mentioned as mediocre. I am fine with that and understand that there are different strokes for different folks.

I saw the same thing. This is a crude movie, and while the some of the general public may love that sort of thing, there is a huge set of people who would hate a movie like Superbad.

Personally, I think the movie could have been a lot milder than it was with regard to profanity and the like, and been much better for it.

But to each their own.

I felt the language was completely reasonable and actually made the film more realistic. It wasn't even that bad, nor did I feel it was crude for crude's sake, and there were plenty clever bits within the film.

I see no possible way that taking many of the curse words out could improve the film, they were just plain old words in the film. They weren't there to shock so actually lessening them would have made them shocking words, which would've undercut the use of language in the film.

Don't want to be compared with the common man, eh?

Transformers was a lot of fun, but I don't think most people would say it was a 'great' film. I like dCars, better than most cgi animation, but IMO it was the weakest Pixar film to date. I like some foreign films, but just because something has subtitles doesn't automatically make it better.

Someone thinks highly of themselves.

You say you understand but you don't hesitate to put them down for it.

I could care less whether you liked or disliked the movie, but the fact that you saw someone walk out of it means less than zilch. It's no better a barometer of quality than box office receipts.

You want to cite the general public's bad taste, then I'll cite the large number of moviegoers who show up to the multiplex without having any idea what they want to see. I'll bet the couples you witnessed walking out had selected their movie at random.

When I saw Superbad I was actually surprised by how many older couples were in the audience. And, for what it's worth, not a one of them walked out.
