I thought it was the funniest movie I've ever seen. That probably had a lot to do with the shock value factor which may not hold up on future viewings. However, I will certainly be picking this up.

Actually, I am very common. I meant to be "slamming" the J6P type we often slam here.

I agree, Transformers was fun, solid entertainment. I'm glad I saw it and plan to own it someday. But many people, here and elsewhere, have called it the best film of the year. That is just silly. And I don't really watch many foreign films either, I was just pointing out that J6P types wouldn't even consider non-mainstream films.
I was upset at being called out for not liking mediocre (imo) mainstream stuff, and "general public" was perhaps the wrong term. But yes, I do consider myself "more film aware" than J6P.
Again, I was reacting to what I thought to be a ludicrous inference that I was "wrong" for not loving those movies. Perhaps I shouldn't have made that leap.

I don't think I'm putting down people who think Superbad is an A film, but it pains me that some people (not in this thread) don't even understand that it is possible to have an opposite viewpoint on that film or other mainstream hits. It saddens me greatly that countless people praise to the hills movies like White Chicks or Speed 2, and then say that Fight Club or Amadeus were awful.

Maybe I'm just not phrasing things well, because I really thought I was quite tolerant. Or maybe I have become a snob.

Believe it or not, many people, from film critics to people here, did not like Knocked Up.

Personally, I gave it a C, and liked it much more than Cars.

Everyone has their moments, I'll let this one slide ;)

But comparing Superbad to Speed 2 and White Chicks? That just ain't right!

Film snobs annoy me almost as much as the Joe six-packs. Both have limited viewpoints and think their opinions are gospel. I loved Superbad but can see why it missed the mark for some, comedies in general are more hit and miss since people's sense of humor are quite different.

It's a movie that features the way high school kids actually speak, crudely.

If you are of such a weak consistition and so easily offended but something as harmless as "Superbad" then you truly are pathetic.

All I know is that everyone inside my friendship/family circle loved it. This includes my parents who are in their 50s, my brother's g/f who hardly ever goes to theaters and saw it twice, and my friend who didn't like "Knocked Up".

My favorite part of the film was Michael Cera. He was a genius in "Arrested Development" and is a genius here.

Please, I loved the movie, but calling someone pathetic just because they don't like an overuse of swearing and dick jokes is lame.

I wasn't really trying to compare SB w/ those, just going for effect.

Back on topic, I'll probably end up buying the DVD. It would be fun if they had a bleeped version.... :)

Of course not ALL high school kids talk that way, but the kind that don't see much action and would want to impress a girl by getting her drunk? You bet.

Believe it or not, there have been extremely funny comedies, even recent high school ones, that don't use the F word 315 times.

A lot of people agree with me. A lot don't, that's freedom, not pathetic.

Who the hell are these countless people? I don't know anyone who likes those movies, much less praises them to the hills.

For the record, I hated Cars, too. Beautiful animation doesn't overcome boredom.

Again, I was going a bit to one extreme to make a point. But a quick search finds much praise for White Chicks. 10/10 votes at metacritic and other sites, several professional reviewers who gave it a passing grade, #2 film its opening week, #3 in rentals for multiple weeks, etc

So back to the DVD, think we'll get a sorta bare bones release and then an upgrade 4 months later?

Wow, and I thought I was alone in my dislike of Knocked up.
Anyway, I can definitely see a bare bonish release and then a "Superbad" Edition of Superbad several months later, with an extended cut of the movie, if there is one.

I can 100% guarantee that you will buy if there are stores that have exclusive bonus discs for this. ;)

I don't think so. Knocked Up is getting a 2-disc release the same day as the regular release. I don't see why they wouldn't do the same with Superbad.

That's not to say that there won't be another release to promote the next Apatow production. But I imagine that wouldn't be until Pineapple Express next summer. Or maybe Drillbit Taylor, though I'm not sure when that's scheduled for release.

Rottentomatoes shows 18 negative reviews compared to a whopping 183 positive reviews. What other critics? That's an extremely small number. This is still one of the best reviewed films of the year and was likely one of the most profitable in the US.

I use profanity. "Crude" language is just language some people don't like. There's nothing wrong with it. It's all words people. There are no bad words, just bad intentions.

I loved Knocked Up.

I loved Superbad. I saw it twice at the theater, which is something I don't do often.

I loved every bit of profanity in Superbad.

I loved all of the dick jokes. No, I'm not gay but I do find dicks parachuting into battle to be quite funny.

I can't wait to add Knocked Up and Superbad to my collection.
