Hairspray --> November 20th!
A date and specs, courtesy of Video Business:
New Line Home Entertainment will set holiday style Nov. 20, when it releases Hairspray in three standard DVD versions and on Blu-ray Disc, the studio’s first high-definition release.
The dual-format supporting studio also will release the musical on HD DVD, but not until the first half of 2008 due to the format's lack of regional coding, making the title a de facto Blu-ray exclusive in the fourth quarter.
On DVD, the $107 million grossing box-office hit will be available as a single-disc priced at $28.98, in a two-disc “Shake and Shimmy” edition priced at $34.99 and in a gift set priced at $59.76. The Blu-ray and upcoming HD DVD will be $34.99.
Both the two-disc DVD and the Blu-ray version will be packaged with a unique two-sided, transparent sleeve, that can be turned to show either the show's adult or teenage casts on the front of the package.
The two-disc “Shake and Shimmy” edition and the high-def versions are fully decked-out with extras, among them behind-the-scenes bonus features including a new musical number (“I Can Wait”), a “You Can’t Stop the Beat” documentary, a “Hairspray Extensions” featurette offering dance breakdowns, audio commentaries and deleted scenes.
In addition, the Blu-ray version will have a “Behind the Beat” picture-in-picture-type option allowing viewers to watch behind-the-scenes footage and commentary concurrent with the running feature. The HD DVD, when it releases next year, also will have picture-in-picture, Internet connectivity and Web-enhanced features.

Great movie that I'll be picking up on blu-ray day and date. I hope they have a 'sing-a-long' subtitle option - saw it once in the theatre that way and it was a lot of fun.

artwork and details for single-disc, 2-disc, blu-ray and collector's sets available here:

2-disc artwork looks horrible imho. wish they'd just use the black background poster artwork with the faces of the cast. they used it for the sdtk, but they're using a modified version for the single-disc instead.
i'm interested in how this is going to work out: Both the Two-Disc DVD and Blu-ray “Shake and Shimmy” Editions will be packaged with a unique two-sided, transparent sleeve, that can be turned to show either Hairspray’s adult or teenage ensemble. (pictured below)
the pictures they show don't really demonstrate how that would work. i'm guessing it's a transparent slipcover with the casts on both sides, BUT then that would seem to "block out" the blurbs/ratings/info on the back side of the dvd, so that seems unlikely? and then wouldn't the front cover have to be blank so that the picture on the slipcover doesn't overlap?

It's almost available at Columbiahouse..... There's a special banner for it, but when you try and get information you get a blank page. They must have just put it up today since it wasn't there last night. Pre-order and get other musicals for as low as $4.95.
I NEED this DVD!

^ if you're referring to the collector's edition above, it'll be available at all retailers. so you won't have to go to a specific store to get it. as for any potential store exclusives though, that has yet to be determined.

I was in Wal Mart the other night, and it looks like they'll have an exclusive bonus DVD with the 1 disc version of this film. It will contain features on casting the character of Tracy and turning John Travolta into Edna.
The poster claims the disc is over 40 minutes.
These features aren't on the official 2 disc, so it will be worth it for the poor completist suckers such as myself.
