Here's a production still of Tyrell that I found on the amazon product page:
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...-still3-lg.jpg

As you can see he is wearing a shiny black suit. Often black is just very deep blue, so that may account for the old transfer making it blue, it being overally bright. Which would also account for more warmness. It could also be something the studio might have done to make it look "better". The colors are also very warm yet look more natural than the 97 transfer.

Of course this being a production still doesn't mean much to how it should look in the film, but it does confirm that the suit is supposed to be black.

Yeah I really want the 5-disc briefcase but I might just have to settle for the 4-disc. We'll see.

lamphorn 12-17-07 02:36 AM

Yeah, man, the 4 disc is only coming out to about 23 bucks and the 5-disc (with happy-meal toys) comes to 55 dollars. $32.00 just for the one disc with the Workprint Cut is just not worth it. I'll borrow it from a friend or watch it at some time in the future.
Gonna have to go with the 4-disc.

Count de Monet 12-17-07 03:07 AM

Considering that the 5-disc set breaks down to a mere $11 a disc on Amazon, I'm not sure what some people are whining about. Imagine how much this same content would have cost as a LaserDisc boxset 15 years ago. Probably $200 or $300, easy.

MikeShaynePI 12-17-07 04:01 AM

Horray. May blu-ray briefcase has changed to Shipping Soon. I'll get it before my trip! Now I can atleast take the two standard discs with me to watch.

Mine just changed too, and like you Im hoping to get it before I leave on the 21st. My fingers are crossed, itd be so nice to have the movie and all the content for a long day of travel.

Drop 12-17-07 09:19 AM

I'm almost certainly getting the briefcase. The trinkets look a bit lame, but the case itself is cool, and I love bonus photographs. I also really want the 5th disc, it's practically priceless to me.

RickyJamesPhD 12-17-07 09:29 AM

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Amazon has just posted there is a production delay on the briefcase set. It appears it is going to affect ALL retailers tomorrow. Sorry to have to say it.

There must atleast be certain quantities available though. I got shipping notification of my BD briefcase set last week from another store. It would be odd if Amazon didn't atleast get their share of the ones already made.

ramones70 12-17-07 11:12 AM

Well I walked in to a store and they had 3 breifcases one HD one BR one ST. I bought the ST. They had HD and BR of the 5disc non breifcase set and 4 disc ST and no 2 disc sets at all. My only complaint is the 4 still galleries are missing from disc 4.

That's one way to look at it. Another way to look at it is

4 discs= $22.99
5 discs= $54.99

That last disc is costing 32 dollars. Not worth it. I'd pay an extra 5 or 10 dollars for disc 5, but not over 30. The toys are worthless to me, so I'd only be buying for the disc and that's too much over the 4-disc price.

Johnny Zhivago 12-17-07 02:07 PM

I skimmed the thread but I don't think I saw any shots of the 4 disc set... My apologies if they were posted. If not, here's a few, my set came in this morning...

Whether or not the toys are worthless to you, doesn't mean they don't factor into the cost of the final product. I bet the briefcase is the real reason it costs so much, plus there are some great color photos, a lenticular photo, and of course a 5th disc. All of those things make it cost more, even if they have no value to you. So the last disc is not really costing 32 dollars.

It does suck that there isn't an option, though.

I have a feeling that once the briefcase sells out, they'll release a 5-disc digipack and phase out the 4-disc. Just a hunch, but I don't think I can wait. Gonna have to pick up the 4-disc. 22 dollars is really a great price for a set like that. It's the best value for the SD editions. Just wish they had done it like the HD, 5-disc briefcase and 5-disc non-briefcase.

Hopefully someone I know will get the briefcase and I can go watch the Workprint cut at their place or borrow it or maybe if we're really lucky, Netflix will carry it.

ChefWinduAZ 12-17-07 04:45 PM

They showed the briefcase on Ebert and Roper this weekend. Roper wasn't to impressed with the case. I think he said it was made of plastic. Other than that he seemed to like the set.

DVDbeaver says a lot of things. I think they took a big hit in the credibility department because they display such obvious bias towards anything released by Criterion...even Armageddon.

After finding that tidbit myself...all I can say is "Well that's just YOU talking!". Seriously, they're collectibles. You're not supposed to give them to children to play with, you're supposed to display them on your desk! :brickwl2:

103'000 is a frikkin' lot actually, even if you split it in three. The Hellraiser cube by Anchor Bay UK, for example, was limited to what, 30'000 at least, and you still see them available in webshops, often at bargain prices.

Admittably, USA does have like six times larger population, but even then, how many of them will buy this movie, and how many of those will actually get around to get the briefcase instead of settling for the 2- or 4-discer versions?

Nah, I'm pretty certain that the briefcase will be available for quite a long time into the future. In fact, you only need to start worrying about the availability of a "limited edition" if the production number is less than 10'000.

Does this set have a poster offer in it? Many Warner collector's sets have poster offers. The Song Remains the Same, Superman, The Searchers, etc. Blade Runner had great poster art.
You could always try hunting down that huge collector's box set from '97. :D

Here is what the Briefcase set looks like, mine arrived today. . .

I was wondering the same thing in the thread that he started. I speculated it was because he wasn't really a PhD, but who knows? I am actually really curious why he was banned. They didn't close his other thread, it must have been a dupe user or something?

I had a box from Amazon on my door this morning. Alas, it was not the BD briefcase I ordered in August. Oh well, not in a big rush.

That's odd, because I checked DVDBeaver's comparison of Armageddon, and here's what they say:

"The Criterion version has additional extras but is non-anamorphic. For widescreen TV owners or HTPC, then the European [DVD] is the way to go. "

My amazon order isnt set to ship till the 23rd. I placed it the day the SD briefcase was put up. Not very happy, gonna try BB tomorrow.

alfonsosoriano 12-17-07 08:50 PM

I'm just really mad at the fact that they don't offer a 5-disc non briefcase for standard DVD. Unless I get a Best Buy gift card from at least one of my aunts on Saturday, I'm going 4-disc. I think my friend is getting the 5-disc HD version, so I'll check out the work print copy there. I'd rather spend that $30+ on some other DVDs if I have to pay all cash.

hulka 12-17-07 09:26 PM

Will Wal-Mart be carrying the 5-disc SD briefcase?
