I'm surprised at how quickly this collector edition is coming out.

SuperBatMan 08-31-07 06:32 AM

Why didn't they just release this in the first place?

C_Fletch 08-31-07 06:42 AM

Yea, no kidding. Does this new set include the 'extra movie' included in the bonus disc at Walmart?

The No Man 08-31-07 06:46 AM

HOLY MOLEY!

am I glad I didn't get the regular or wal-mart editions!

how lame on universal's part though...seriously

"dead right" is listed in the first post, if that's what you mean.

LorenzoL 08-31-07 06:51 AM

I thought the Wal-Mart bonus was the Fuzzball Rally.

I think all of the extras on the UK R2 and the Wal-Mart bonus disc along with some new ones are included on this CE.

TRC 08-31-07 07:04 AM

Wow I don't think I've ever been more upset about a DVD re-release. Mostly because I practically jumped through hoops to track down a widescreen version of the Wal-Mart set. I wouldn't mind so much if it only contained the same two discs, but it has a third disc. Not to mention it's coming out so soon after the original release. I might've understood if they had waited at least a year. I'm not actually angry so much as I am very surprised and disheartened.

cerial442 08-31-07 07:07 AM

This looks like it has the commentaries and an extended Fuzz Ball ralley clip. I'll pass, as I have the Wal-Mart two pack.

Superman07 08-31-07 07:21 AM

I was in BB the other week after I watched this on Netflix and said, "You know, I liked this enough to buy it, but I know this is just screaming for a douple (possibly more) dip. I think I'll wait."

Glad I did. However, even on sale we're talking ~$25. That still may be a little rough to take. Honestly, how often does anybody watch all of the extended features?

animatedude 08-31-07 07:27 AM

i have the UK dvd but i haven't seen it yet....so i take it this 3-disc has more than the UK 2-disc? that would suck.

That’s my opinion as well. I also had a hard time trying to get my hands on the WS version of Hot Fuzz at Wal*Mart & I they only had 2 WS copies & the rest were full screen. I wish this was just released on the same day as the 1 disc version.

I won’t be double-dipping; I’m just going to stick with the OR DVD release of Hot Fuzz.

starseed1981 08-31-07 08:28 AM

No double dip here just out of spite.

darkside 08-31-07 08:29 AM

Thankfully the HD DVD release had most of this to start with. Universal should have just released this on day one.

Rammsteinfan 08-31-07 08:29 AM

As much as I want the new 3 discer, the walmart 2 pack will do for me as well.

Yavin 08-31-07 08:30 AM

WTF?! I just opened my widescreen 1-disc copy last week. :mad2:

xage 08-31-07 08:36 AM

Its a good news for those who did not jump into the Walmart WideScreen Frenzy

Panda Phil 08-31-07 09:10 AM

{Vader voice} Nooooooooooooooooooooo!!! {/Vader voice}

DJLinus 08-31-07 09:36 AM

Well, that just sucks. I too went through a lot of trouble to get a WS two pack from Wal-Mart. As much as I love this movie, I doubt I'll double dip.

Edgar Wright is friends with Peter Jackson, right? He should've taken a cue from him and announced this CE when the regular edition was announced like Jackson did with LOTR (provided he knew Universal was going to release this and wasn't barred from saying so).

This is strange since Wright and Pegg seem to care about the fans, given what I've seen.

zombeaner 08-31-07 09:41 AM

I jumped through hoops for the WM pack too, but I'll try to get rid of it and buy this new one. These companies are bitches.

TheMovieman 08-31-07 09:42 AM

Dammit. No doubt I'll end up getting this, though. Looks like there's an extra commentary, though. *sigh*

Glad I cancelled my R2 order though...

cbearnm 08-31-07 09:43 AM

While I thoroughly enjoy the HD verison, this ticks me off. The HD version is worth it just for the picture quality, but I really want all the extras.

The drawback to this is that it will reach a point that a lot of us will not buy the original releases in the future. When those sales levels drop in response, they will be less likely to issue 2 (or 3) disk SEs and CEs. It's an evil cycle. If only they had a 'trade-up' program that you can get just the new material (although commentaries would be tough to do.) But then we would gripe about the nickle and diming they are doing.

Frustrating.

Yavin 08-31-07 09:47 AM

I'm sure in 3 months I'll have made peace with this news, enough to double dip. Or maybe I just won't care any more. We'll see.

Jonno2006 08-31-07 09:47 AM

So glad i didn't buy it the first time around! I so almost did though! Good thing my wallet was gettin a little thin that week! :D

Jason Bovberg 08-31-07 09:53 AM

I don't have the Wal-Mart disc in front of me (I too jumped through hoops to get it, godammit), but are we SURE everything from that bonus disc on here?

Gee, this kinda sucks.

TheMovieman 08-31-07 09:54 AM

Was that fifth commentary on the R2 disc? The one with "Edgar Wright and Guest"?

Edit: Now that I think about it, I probably would've been ahead if I bought the R2 release because it would've cost $34 total while this 3-disc release will cost probably $25-30 when its release... double *sigh*

LorenzoL 08-31-07 09:55 AM

I don't have the Wal-Mart bonus disc so if somebody who has it, would be kind enough to post the content for the comparison, it would be appreciated.

However, all of the content for the UK R2 version is included on this upcoming CE release.

notkevinbacon 08-31-07 09:56 AM

I am just going to echo the frustration. Was there any whiff of this? I usually don't feel so blind sided by releases. I tried to track down that Walmart version and gave up.

The adult in me wants to hold off on this double dip, pull up a blackboard and teach those studios folks a lesson (yeah right). The kid in me just wants to play trucks. However, it's a great flick and more content is generally a nice thing... I will probably try to restrain from getting it right away and wait for a sale or something. Didn't I see the King Kong 3 discer for $9.99 at best buy a few weeks ago?

Point is... I am buying it and I'm kinda miffed.

Luther Heggs 08-31-07 09:57 AM

So there's a fifth commentary with a mystery guest? And I hope by "extended" Fuzzball Rally means that there'll be some actual Dallas footage included - beyond just a nanosecond of the red carpet. Still feel like Universal's got us all greased up and ready to be violated on this one.

PopcornTreeCt 08-31-07 09:58 AM

This is a perfect example of why people should go hi def.

TheMovieman 08-31-07 10:01 AM

chris_sc77 08-31-07 10:11 AM

^It's just a different cut of the trailer...
Also I am thinking the video blogs on disk 3 may be new features since it says that they also have video blogs on disk 2. That is assuming that the disks are set up like the R2 2-disker whick looks to be the case for the most part.
Anyways i am a little pissed about this release since I spent $30 bucks 2 months ago for a used region 2 copy of the 2-disk....
How i hate Rogue/Universal..

Yeah, you're right about the blogs. Didn't notice that.

TheMovieman 08-31-07 10:15 AM

BTW, anyone think the new commentary "Guest" is Peter Jackson?

project86 08-31-07 10:17 AM

Meh, I'm pissed, but the third disc doesn't look very special. If its ever cheap I'll pick it up, but geez, they shouldn't do this to people haha.

Actually, I just did, and it was partly because of this movie. But this new set will have features not included on the HD-DVD, apparently.

rhcp1214 08-31-07 11:18 AM

This is some bullshit.

Rizor 08-31-07 11:28 AM

Universal is a bunch of assholes plain and simple. This is probably the most infuriating DVD release to ever come from a major studio. Universal went to the trouble of releasing a clearly inferior disc. Then they shine a ray of hope by giving us the Wal-Mart bonus disc. But then they make about 80% of copies in fullscreen. But then they get off their asses and make the widescreen version available through the Wal-Mart website. And then they pull this shit. All in exactly a month, might I add.

Johnny Zhivago 08-31-07 11:28 AM

I'm in.
