Hot Fuzz 3 Disc CE --- 11/27/07

Universal has announced a brand new 3-Disc Collector's Edition of Hot Fuzz which stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. The set will be available to own from the 27th November, and should retail at around $34.98 or thereabouts. The film itself will be presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with English, French and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 EX tracks. The artwork hasn't been revealed for this one yet, but we'll bring you that very shortly. I thought the Wal-Mart bonus was the Fuzzball Rally.
I think all of the extras on the UK R2 and the Wal-Mart bonus disc along with some new ones are included on this CE. |
Wow I don't think I've ever been more upset about a DVD re-release. Mostly because I practically jumped through hoops to track down a widescreen version of the Wal-Mart set. I wouldn't mind so much if it only contained the same two discs, but it has a third disc. Not to mention it's coming out so soon after the original release. I might've understood if they had waited at least a year. I'm not actually angry so much as I am very surprised and disheartened.

This looks like it has the commentaries and an extended Fuzz Ball ralley clip. I'll pass, as I have the Wal-Mart two pack.

I was in BB the other week after I watched this on Netflix and said, "You know, I liked this enough to buy it, but I know this is just screaming for a douple (possibly more) dip. I think I'll wait."
Glad I did. However, even on sale we're talking ~$25. That still may be a little rough to take. Honestly, how often does anybody watch all of the extended features? |
i have the UK dvd but i haven't seen it yet....so i take it this 3-disc has more than the UK 2-disc? that would suck.

Thats my opinion as well. I also had a hard time trying to get my hands on the WS version of Hot Fuzz at Wal*Mart & I they only had 2 WS copies & the rest were full screen. I wish this was just released on the same day as the 1 disc version. I wont be double-dipping; Im just going to stick with the OR DVD release of Hot Fuzz. |

Thankfully the HD DVD release had most of this to start with. Universal should have just released this on day one.

Well, that just sucks. I too went through a lot of trouble to get a WS two pack from Wal-Mart. As much as I love this movie, I doubt I'll double dip.
Edgar Wright is friends with Peter Jackson, right? He should've taken a cue from him and announced this CE when the regular edition was announced like Jackson did with LOTR (provided he knew Universal was going to release this and wasn't barred from saying so). This is strange since Wright and Pegg seem to care about the fans, given what I've seen. |
I jumped through hoops for the WM pack too, but I'll try to get rid of it and buy this new one. These companies are bitches.

While I thoroughly enjoy the HD verison, this ticks me off. The HD version is worth it just for the picture quality, but I really want all the extras.
The drawback to this is that it will reach a point that a lot of us will not buy the original releases in the future. When those sales levels drop in response, they will be less likely to issue 2 (or 3) disk SEs and CEs. It's an evil cycle. If only they had a 'trade-up' program that you can get just the new material (although commentaries would be tough to do.) But then we would gripe about the nickle and diming they are doing. Frustrating. |
I'm sure in 3 months I'll have made peace with this news, enough to double dip. Or maybe I just won't care any more. We'll see.

Edit: Now that I think about it, I probably would've been ahead if I bought the R2 release because it would've cost $34 total while this 3-disc release will cost probably $25-30 when its release... double *sigh* |

I am just going to echo the frustration. Was there any whiff of this? I usually don't feel so blind sided by releases. I tried to track down that Walmart version and gave up.
The adult in me wants to hold off on this double dip, pull up a blackboard and teach those studios folks a lesson (yeah right). The kid in me just wants to play trucks. However, it's a great flick and more content is generally a nice thing... I will probably try to restrain from getting it right away and wait for a sale or something. Didn't I see the King Kong 3 discer for $9.99 at best buy a few weeks ago? Point is... I am buying it and I'm kinda miffed. |
So there's a fifth commentary with a mystery guest? And I hope by "extended" Fuzzball Rally means that there'll be some actual Dallas footage included - beyond just a nanosecond of the red carpet. Still feel like Universal's got us all greased up and ready to be violated on this one.

Also I am thinking the video blogs on disk 3 may be new features since it says that they also have video blogs on disk 2. That is assuming that the disks are set up like the R2 2-disker whick looks to be the case for the most part. Anyways i am a little pissed about this release since I spent $30 bucks 2 months ago for a used region 2 copy of the 2-disk.... How i hate Rogue/Universal.. |

Meh, I'm pissed, but the third disc doesn't look very special. If its ever cheap I'll pick it up, but geez, they shouldn't do this to people haha.

Universal is a bunch of assholes plain and simple. This is probably the most infuriating DVD release to ever come from a major studio. Universal went to the trouble of releasing a clearly inferior disc. Then they shine a ray of hope by giving us the Wal-Mart bonus disc. But then they make about 80% of copies in fullscreen. But then they get off their asses and make the widescreen version available through the Wal-Mart website. And then they pull this shit. All in exactly a month, might I add.
