The Anchor Bay 'tin' DVD cut is the unrated version, it's just not officially listed on the tin as such... there is extra blood during the hammer attack it's talked about in the commentary... oddly the bodyrip scene seen uncut in Hellraiser 2 is still trunscated for Hellraiser I.

^ thanks for the reply, though i was actually thinking he was talking about the first hellraiser, since that scene of julia killing the guy with hammer blows is in that movie. so there's really no "uncut" version of hellraiser 1 on dvd then?

Only this tiny bit of victim pleading was added on video. But the murder is still cut down from what it was originally. But Barker says it seems more violent in this version,than being overdone with more hammer swings. The rest of of the film still has MPAA edits as well. And I suspect some of that material Barker would want to restore,if the footage could be found. Especially Franks demise.

in any case, as much as it'd be great to see all that excised footage someday, i think the r-rated cut as it is makes for a strong and tense movie. the cuts didn't affect the movie that much because, unlike these hostel-type movies nowadays, ultimately the movie is not really about the gore. so if this unseen footage never sees the light of day, it's still a great movie, americanized dubbing and all.
