Casino Royale: 40th Anniversary Edition
From DAVIS DVD:
I must say, it sounds like a fun little DVD and it could use a cleaned-up transfer, but the fact that these original features aren't mentioned...
- Making-Of Featurette Hosted by Val Guest
- Original "Casino Royale" Made-For-TV Movie
- Original Theatrical Trailer
slightly worries me.
MGM Home Entertainment will release Casino Royale: 40th Anniversary Edition on November 6th. The 1967 spy spoof - never part of the official James Bond canon - starred Peter Sellers, Ursula Andress, David Niven, Orson Wells, and Woody Allen, among others. The new DVD arrives with
- 2.35 anamorphic transfer
- Dolby Digital 5.1 and mono tracks
- an audio commentary with James Bond historians Steven Jay Rubin and John Cork
- "The Making of Casino Royale"
- "Bond James Bond"
- "A 3 Rind Circus"
- "More Directors, More Stars"
- "The Big Climax"
- "It's a Wrap!"
Retail is 19.98

James Bond historians doing the commentary? Wish they could have gotten Mike Meyers. What can Bond historians really add. Maybe it's interesting.
I am not a hater of this film by the way. I am actually a pretty big fan of it's silliness. I love the Bacharach soundtrack and promptly went out and bought in 1991 after watching this film.
Did you guys know it's been rumored that Billy Wilder was an uncredited script doctor on this. He denied it.
I'd buy a Blu Ray for this baby.

I've actually been musing about picking this up for awhile but the loss of the original "Royale" Climax! episode is enough for me to stick with the older release if I do decide to buy it.
Despite its limitations, I've always found the original "Casino Royale" to be one of the better adaptations of Fleming's work. It's less flashy for certain, but it's got more of the grit and punch of the original novels than more than a few of the subsequent films.

Speaking of Mike Meyers, why is there no "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery 10th Anniversary Edition"?
The US disc doesn't have any of the Christian Slater scenes on it anywhere.

I saw this movie once along time ago & I could never remember what it was called; now I do! When I was a wee lad I always thought Casino Royale was an official Bond film (well it is now) but now I can finally confirm its not.
Although I don’t remember a lot of the movie, I’ll definitely pick this one up.

I was planning on getting this since I never got the original release, but after reading that the made-for-tv movie and trailers aren't included I might just have to hunt down a copy of the old edition. Why can't features be ported over when a new edition comes out?

They probably couldn't fit the original '52 Casino Royale due to space constraints. It probably could've been solved if this got a second disc, but I could see why the studio would think the movie wouldn't warrant one.

Anyone consider this - There will UNDOUBTEDLY be a 2 disc Ultimate Edition of the 2006 Casino Royale soon. Wouldn't the 1954 Climax version of Casino Royale be a better fit on that set than on the spoof set?
I think so, and it would be a great way to compare how the book was adapted for the screen just after it came out, and then 50 years later.

Peter O'Toole is in it. He has a bit part in it and he looks like he's seen some profoundly better days. On the bagpipes with a complexion reflecting (death but my hope being) milk and barley and bloodpudding and anything on God's green and blessed Earth reflecting nutrition and not dying.

I bought a VCD of the movie that contained some kind of "European" or "International" cut and there are two Christian Slater guard scenes along with the cutaway henchmen scenes included.
But not the Fendi case scene.

So...I've read this has been pushed back until next June. Anyone know why? They'll have to call it a 41st Anniversary Edition. Doesn't really have the same ring.
