Roseanne: The Complete 8th Season, not so complete?

I picked up Roseanne: The Complete 8th Season, at Best Buy (along with Season 4, as my free season). I just came home, and read on the SitcomsOnline message forums that Season 8 has at least 1 edit. Apparently, in the very first episode, "Shower the People You Love with Stuff", it does not feature the original "tag", which was the two different Becky's in the send-up of the theme song to The Patty Duke Show. I haven't put my set in, yet, so I can't confirm. However, if this is true, I will be EXTREMELY disappointed. Why would they not include this? It's even shown in the syndicated airings?!

Can anyone else confirm this?

I just watched the first disc and a half of it tonight, and NO it's not on there. Maybe it had something to do with getting rights for using the song for the DVD set. What a shame - because I do remember that song being played.

But if that's the ONLY edit, I'm happy with the season 8. A lot of laugh out loud moments in this one!

Darnit! That really ticks me off. Sure, it's not a MAJOR thing, but, it would still be nice to have it.

Thanks for confirming.

I agree, Season 8 has a lot of great moments. I probably won't get around to watching the Season 8 set until next week.

Watched Disc 1 this morning (starting at 3am) & I can *Confirm* that the song is indeed NOT on the episode.

Not a major loss. Season 8 is a great season & it's the second last season of Roseanne & it's the last season before Roseanne turns into a completely different show. I actually didn't hate the series finale as much as some people do. I thought it was different at least. plus Sarah Chalke + Lecy Goranson all in the same season= .

I've been impressed with Anchor Bay (now Starz Home Entertainment) on the fast DVD releases for Roseanne. I wish more studios would be this fast with every TOD title.

Well, I read on another forum that in one of the Disney World episodes, the scene where "When You Wish Upon A Star" was played, is gone as well. I think this really sucks!

Sony's Married With Children DVD releases are painfully slow & FOX has just said to hell with all of you who have bought the first Six seasons of King of the Hill on DVD, we ain't releasin' anymore.

Yeah, I thought that bit was very clever. To omit it from the DVD set is just insulting.

Wow, are you serious??

A few weeks ago I was trying to find that becky scene on the internet but could not find it anywhere! I was even thinking about buying season 8 roseanne just so I can watch that scene.

That really sucks... its one of my favorite moments from roseanne.

They seem to switch the Beckys back and forth during this season. I just got done watching the whole season, and it was like the old Becky was in the first few shows, and then the new Becky showed up for all the others.

I had heard the old Becky was attending college and took time off of the show.

Always liked the old Becky better. Also didn't really like how they changed Becky under the new one. She used to have high goals and then became a Hooters (or something the same as Hooters) girl. Just couldn't see the original Becky doing that.

How much did you guys drop on this set? "Roseanne" is my favorite sitcom of all-time. Even over "Seinfeld". But I thought Season 8 was pretty bad and just got worse as the season went on. And Season 9....absolutely terrible.

Season 8 still had some great episodes. Granted, it was the beginning of the end, so to speak. Season 9 really only has a few episodes that are decent. To me, the finale of the show makes Season 9 worth the purchase, because at least Roseanne was able to end it on her terms. She has said that toward the end of the series, she had pretty much lost creative control of the series, and it absolutely shows. So, she said she decided that with the finale, she wanted to bring it back as best she could.

At any rate, to answer your question, I spent $12.50 on this set, because I bought it at Best Buy, where they had it for $24.99, plus any other Season of Roseanne for free. I didn't have Season 3, 4, or 6, so, I picked up Season 4 as my free Season (mainly because of the terrific Halloween episode, Trick Me Up, Trick Me Down).

Perhaps after Season 9 is released, they'll release a Complete Series set. Hell, maybe if it happens, it'll have the original Season 1 episodes instead the syndicated versions.

Hey, one can dream! And hell, it's Anchor Bay, so you know a re-release is not out of the question.

That's what I'm hoping too, on both counts, and why I've held off on buying these, even though I love the show. I did break down and buy Season 1 a few months ago; I couldn't resist when Circuit City had it on sale for $7.50.

I finished watching the whole season as well & yeah they changed between Lecy Goranson & Sarah Chalke quite a bit. Near the end of the season in the episode "The Wedding", Sarah Chalke played Becky but yet in the very next episode ("Heart & Soul", 2nd last) Lecy is back to play Becky.

Lecy did attend college & thus Sarah Chalke. I don't understand the whole point of leaving a hit show to go and pursue an education when you could just do that once the series is over. But I don't know her reasoning for it so? Sara Gilbert (Darlene) also was going to college I think but she worked it out so she could still be on Roseanne for the most part. I think she went to Yale University if I'm not mistaken.

Anyways as much as Season 9 was a mess for alot of the episodes, like MadonnasManOne said Roseanne pretty much lost all creative control over the series & it was at least good that Roseanne tried to tie things up in the series finale. Can't wait ti'll the season 9 DVD is released probally in late November or early December. Thats been the release pattern so far.

Huh!? Where did you hear that? Entertainment Weekly had the most scathing article on Roseanne during the 9th season saying she was out of control changing the show's tone and storyline so drastically. To disastrous results. It was only when she realized she lost a huge part of her audience that she try to redeem herself in the finale. And even that I hated, sorry guys. The whole character development being made up. Confusing and borderline crazy. At least the last show "felt" like it could have been lifted from an earlier season. But every other episode during the last year was just abysmal IMO. I'll give you that season 8 had a few bright spots. But it was the beginning of the end, for sure.

There have been several interviews that I've seen with Roseanne, and other members of the cast, that have said that the writers, producers, and network executives had taken most of the control away from Roseanne. In one interview, Roseanne directly said that, by the last season, she had pretty much lost all control of the creative process, and didn't really have a say in the direction that it went in. She said that, when they finally decided to end the show, she wanted to end it on her terms. I think she came up with a satisfying finale. It may not have been what fans expected, but, at least it helped to erase the terrible direction that the show had gone in during the final season.

I believe YOU. I'm not sure I believe Roseanne. We all know she's more than a little cuckoo for cocoa puffs. Her memory changes almost daily. Now if the other cast members said the same, that's interesting. But my question is, why on earth would ABC try to change what's not broken? That doesn't even make sense. Her show was in the Top 10 *still* until the 9th season. Do you remember Roseanne saying towards the end of season 7 that she was calling it a day? She kept changing her mind. And I, for one, was thrilled she kept going. I think the show hit it's creative zenith during seasons 5-7. Those are my favorite and the one's I watch the most. Fantastic stuff.
