It was officially announced, they just never set the date for it. This trailer was on the Popeye DVD set.

In case you are all wondering why it doesn't seem like the "complete" season 1, here is an explanation from TVShowsonDvD.com

What I can tell you is the contents of this set and why the box says 19 cartoons (if you follow the TV Shows on DVD link, you can see a larger version of the art).

Season One originally aired as an hour, two eleven minute episodes and one full half-hour story. But as early as Show #3, they began repeating cartoons. Show #3 has “Vanity Fare” which was also in Show #1. It didn’t make sense to release 21 hours of Smurfs (the number of Season One episodes) with a lot of repeats in them, so they are in the order of the original hours, but without duplicates. Here is the list by disc:

DISC ONE:

1 The Smurf’s Apprentice
2 The Smurfette
3 Vanity Fare
______________________________

4 King Smurf
5 The Astrosmurf
6 Jokey’s Medicine
______________________________

7 St. Smurf and the Dragon
8 Sorcerer Smurf
______________________________

9 The Smurfs and the Howlibird

DISC TWO:

10 The Magical Meanie
11 Bewitched, Bothered and Be-Smurfed
______________________________

12 Smurf-Colored Glasses
13 Dreamy’s Nightmare
______________________________

14 Fuzzle Trouble
15 Soup A La Smurf
______________________________

16 All That Glitters Isn’t smurf
17 Romeo and Smurfette
______________________________

18 The Hundredth Smurf
19 Smurphony in ‘C’

The lines between the titles denote what would have been each original hour show, 1 - 9. No word yet on whether these will contain main and end titles.

I thought, according a friend of mine, all the smurfs were created by Gargamel, or was that just Smurfette

as for the purposed movie hope it's an all out smurftastic smurfy time - supposedly it's going to be a REAL-D 3D Digital release.

Already pre-ordered. Can't wait. Part of me wonders if they will hold up all these years later.

My wife and I have watched them via OnDemand in the past few years, and they're still fairly fun. Sometimes the morality plays are a little heavy-handed, but nothing crazy.

As co-founder of my high school's Anti-Smurf & Gargamel Boosters Organization back in the 80's, I must denounce the release of this set.

I want to buy it but it comes out during a time I need to save money for a convention. So, sadly, I will have to hold off for about a month before I can buy it.

I wouldn't mind getting this but breaking it up into different parts kills me. If there's two sets per season that means about 16 separate releases!

I picked up my copy. Anyone know why there isn't a french language track on this?
I noticed all of Hanna Barbera sets have spanish and english tracks except this one. Where could I make a complaint?

It's holds up pretty well. I've watched the first disc with my three year old. She's enjoying it. I know there was some pretty big voice talent behind this show but sometimes their high pitched voices are just grating. That's a minor detail though. I didn't recall how Smurfette came to be so that was cool.

Looks pretty good too. Vibrant colors and not too dirty. Except for the intro story/song which is grainy and dirty as hell. Doesn't look like they touched that up at all which is odd since it is in every episode. You figure that would be the first thing they cleaned up.

I bought it for 19.99 at FYE because I had some credit there. It has a $5 rebate too.

On another note, did anyone else notice that the inside packaging mentions disc 2 has content on side A and side B? Well my disc 2 isn't double-sided. There's artwork on disc 2. I haven't had a chance to put disc 2 in yet, but I'm hoping they just made a mistake on the packaging and there's not actually content missing. Has anyone gone all the way through to disc 2 yet?

I saw this post over at the Home Theater Forum

"Yes, I agree, volumes aren't the nicest way to release a show that lasted as many seasons as The Smurfs did. But, here's something that should make people happy: both discs are actually single sided discs! WB apparently changed their mind about using a double sided disc some time after releasing early art and then still later after printing the actual packaging. I was a bit confused at first when I opened up the box and it listed the content for Disc 2 Side A & B since both discs are single sided, but everything listed for Disc 2 is indeed on it, just all on the one side! Good decision WB!"
