I've got several glowing reviews from different horror sites vs. the opinion of a person who's taste in horror movies I respect completely (that would be you) to consider.

Oh, Dave, I completely forgot you haven't seen it. Well, you can always rent and then decide. To give you the complete picture - we were watching it with my brother, so couple of times we were giving each other that grin, like "yeah, that was pretty gory", couple of times we exclaimed something like "Cool!" at the most gory scenes, couple of times we laughed at some Henry Rollins lines and just at his appearance (hope you know what I mean :)) That's it. In the end we both shrugged and... wanted to say something, but there was no need to say anything - it was obvious the film was mediocre.
