Recent cancelled TV shows on DVD
Surface
Kidnapped
Invasion
do these cancelled shows now coming out as "complete series" DVD sets actually have a satisfying complete story arc????

IIRC Surface ended up on a unsatisfying cliffhanger as well.
Threshold, another recent series that was canned in the first season, had a quick 5 min rewrite/wrap-up in the last eps that gave away the ending they were eventually going to be working towards. It wasn't much but at least it was something...

I was primarily concerned with Kidnapped... as I'm thinking of blind buying it. The cast looks good...

Kidnapped was an amazing show - writing, acting and plot twists. It's well wrapped up on the set.
Go rent it or buy it. It's such a shame it was axed.

I thought that Surface was a great show but they do leav you wanting more. I felt that the ending, in and of itself, was not unlike many other movies I have seen where they leaving you wondering.

Kidnapped was originally supposed to last 22 episodes. When word came that it was going to be cancelled, they rewrote the last few episodes to condense the story line down and wrap it up after 13. It's not perfect since some subplots which probably would have been fleshed out in a full season seem to just fizzle out. This was undoubtedly done with an eye towards DVD sales.
Studios usually just pull the plug on production on a show and don't bother wasting time or money on episodes which haven't been filmed. That's especially true for shows that wrap up after an entire season (Surface, Invasion) and don't get renewed. A few more episodes of The Nine are scheduled to air later this summer, but I doubt we will ever learn what really went on in the bank (as if anyone cared).

When is Andy Barker, PI coming to DVD?

How about Andy Richter Controls the Universe? I think Boomtown which got cancelled after 6 episodes in it's second season needs to be released as well. That show could have been the next great crime drama but like alot of quality shows, they either barely stay on the air season to season (ie. Scrubs) or they get axed from the beginning without much of a chance to develop (ie. Raines).
