Stephen King Miniseries: The Stand, The Langoliers and The Golden Years -- 09/25/07
As per tvshowsondvd.com, Paramount will be releasing all three miniseries in one DVD on 09/25/07. I believe that "The Stand" is OOP so this is good news for those who missed out on the individual release. No word whether this new release is just a port of the previous version or if there will be any extras added to them.

I'm glad to see that this is being released. I was one of those individuals who missed out on the single release of The Stand and I've been searching for it for quite some time. I'll definitely be picking this up.

Chris there is a 3 hour(4 hr with commercial) version of Needful Things which either TBS or TNT airs from time to time. It's a much better version of the film in my opinion. So an uncut(tv version is cut for language/content) with the added bits would be excellent. But unfortunately I doubt that will ever happen.

What they really need is to put an extra feature on The Golden Years explaining where they were planning to go with the series.
Or better yet, King could just publish the scripts and notes.

I like the Langoliers from what I remember of it... years ago. The Stand was very good as well. The Golden Years didn't do it for me. Weird to see all 3 in one set.

There were two released endings for The Golden Years. The US aired ending would have continued the series. The ending on the DVD (and video) just sort of ends quickly.

I hope "The Langoliers" will look a bit better. I seem to recall the previous release didn't deal too well with the grain of 16mm (compression artifacts.) This film really cracks me up, mostly thanks to Bronson Pinchot and his hilarious Craig Toomy character. "I forbid you from flying to some whistle-stop Maine airport!"

If you ever want to torture someone, make them watch The Langoliers over a 4 hour period when its repeated on cable. You think after every commercial that the story might advance before the next ad break, but you would be mistaken.
I didn't realize The Stand was out of print - I've always liked that one.

As long as the price is fair, I'll grab this just for The Stand. And I wouldn't mind seeing The Langoliers again. Never have seen Golden Years, so that could be fun as well.

Coming out next week--can anyone confirm or deny that the version of Golden Years in this set is the full length version, not the truncated one previously issued on DVD? According to the runtime at DVDEmpire, it would be the truncated one again, but their information could be faulty, even if they got it off of the packaging for the Gift Set itself. Has anyone been able to check the discs themselves?
