the register didn't let you buy it, you basically took it before it should be shelved, thereby breaking street date, and if anyone at your store knew any better you would be fired. i used to work at a BB and know these things.

Why the anger?

I rarely ever break street date on new releases. I also work at Blockbuster part-time, so I tend to catch new releases before they're released. The store only received two copies, and I knew they might get lost somewhere in the media warehouse. I was going to just keep it somewhere in the main warehouse, but they tend to round up everything loose and put it out. I decided to test my luck at the register, and it worked.

getting back to the actual movie - I had forgotten how entertaining this movie was, while it's not as bloody or over the top as ReAnimator was, Gordon directed a great little horror flick. As for the restored footage - uh.... what was it?? I know the

I bought The Burning & The Return of the Living Dead (Collector’s Edition) but neither Wal*Mart or Future Shop had From Beyond (Unrated Director’s Cut) & it wasn’t even listed in their computers. Wal*Mart didn't have anything exept for Las Vegas-Season Four which I bought.

I’m just going to order it via. Phone at POS.

No that wasn't in the original version. It is all new and the brain scene as well. You will know it when you see it. I've had the film for a couple of weeks but didn't watch it until last night. Great movie. Barbara Crampton in that outfit is one of the best things I've ever seen. I've loved her since I was a teenager and saw her for the first time.

maybe I had read and scene stills from the cut scene that it wasn't that much of a surprise - but if that's the case, how did Dr. Bloch meet her end in the original R-rated version?

Watching the Lost & Found feature goes thru the cuts. Actually, the eyeball part is the only major thing. All the other stuff is just trims, literally just a second or two cut from the theatrical version.

I say good for you, and I'd have done the exact same thing...in fact, I have, waaaayyyyy back in the '80s when I ran a big record & video store in NYC. Got the "Cliff 'em All" VHS (LOL) by Metallica about 10 days before street date...and I rang it up as "miscellaneous retail" at the full SRP, and took it home and rocked out. It's a natural fringe benefit of the biz, and goes on all the time; always has, always will.

Again....good for you! And piss on any "goody-two-shoes" who cries about it.

If the movie is still on youtube. You could see the R rated version of the 'eyeball' scene. Basically it cuts away immediately, shows a couple shots from below the persons waist as you hear sound effects, then it cuts away. Also the brain eating bit was cut as well, with a shot of the Dr watching in horror/disgust instead.

The uncut clip is,or used to be on their as well if you want to compare the two. But the brain bit was obviously cut in the R version as well. Watch the uncut clip, then go check out the R rated clip and you'll see the difference.

I did get a chance to watch the Lost and found featurette yesterday afternoon and was surprised to see what was restored, it looks like:

Spoiler:

- the spurting blood from the chewed off pineal gland
- breast fondling with the extended fingers
- the eye extraction scene extended/eyeball spit
- the brain eating
- head to the curb

what really surprised me, not in terms of the restored grue, but how well the reinstation and re-editing flows and looks - on my 1080i tv/Sony dvd player component video hookup - the transfer is amazing - wish I had seen this last year on MonstersHD.

I was also how great it looks upscaled on my TV using my HD DVD player. You can see a tiny bit of wear on the inserted scenes but it is remarkable how good it looks. That editor did a great thing and wrote video on the can, he was really thinking ahead.

now if some editor could locate the missing gore scenes from 'My Bloody Valentine' and 'Friday the 13th Part 2" - those I assume are lost forever.

I really don't understand how a film when 'censored' by the MPAA for US theatrical distribution becomes the de facto international version. A full uncut version should be created for international distribution and a seperate one to be scrutinized and sanitized for US release by the scissor wielding MPAA - the film's rating should only apply to the domestic release of the film - only! This apect of the film's rating process goes virtually unnoticed - just because the MPAA board gets offended by x, y and z, the filmmakers snip, cut, reedit for the US masses, but then for reasons unknown, the studio decides that the eviscerated version is also okay for the international distribution of the film regardless if another film censor board would be more receptive and less offended by the Motion Picture Association of America perception of the film's violence/sex/language etc.

Just got my four pack of classic horror in the mail from Amazon: Return Of The Living Dead CE, From Beyond, The Burning and last but not least The Food Of The Gods! Classic horror is back! To all who try to hunt them down at the local stores, why waste time and gas looking for the tough to find new releases? Buy them on Amazon and get them all at once, I ordered on 9/11 and they arrived today. End of story.

Because sometimes it's fun to kinda go on a scavenger hunt. The thrill of finding it on a shelf somewhere and walking out of the store with the only copy in town is somewhat rewarding in a cheesy, dorky, maniacal, stupid, implusory, immediate gratification kinda way.

exactly. i knew i wouldn't find RotLD or FB at a common b&m so i went to fye, found FB fast, but didn't see RotLD until i went by a display that had 2, paid a couple $$ more and got a free "Death Proof" / "Planet Terror" slipcase. not...too...bad.

Quoted for Truth.

Plus, I don’t like using the ole’ credit card on the internet. I’m an old geezer who thinks that someone is going to take all my money & buy I pod’s & Xbox360’s with it.

I enjoy going to the stores every Tuesday & grabbing those DVDs off the shelf.

Several hundred copies of Norbit, though. Floor to ceiling on one side of the aisle.

...I actually did find the last copy of From Beyond on 9/12, even though the site said it wasn't in stock anywhere in Sacramento.

WTF is it with Norbit anyway? The Fred Meyers near me never did get any copies of the Flash Gordon movie or the Troy Directors Cut. But they sure as hell had 30 copies of that POS on the New Release shelf.

Because the US studios that made most of these low-budget films didn't take them seriously. (Heck, they probably didn't give that much more regard for their big budget flicks, either.) They were made for a quick buck and then dumped for TV packages that had to be censored even more so. They certainly didn't expect a market for them in home video which was still on the horizon when a lot of these films were made. Besides, who hasn't cleared out their house of "junk" to make room for new furniture or whatever, only to regret throwing something out that had value years later?
