Box side. Except Nightmare and Universal Monsters Collections - I just like the way the latter looks spine out.

Generally box unless spines make a picture or something.

It totally depends on how the box is laid out. If it's just a slipcase of regular amarays (or snappers), then I'll usually put them title-out. If it's thinpaks, or a digipak, then I'll put it box-side out. The exception to the rule is for Criterion boxsets, as I always put them box-side out, but only if the box has a spine number. If it doesn't (like the Samurai Trilogy or the Hitchcock one), then I will just put the box in the closet, since I don't have room for them on the shelves.

This thread has convinced me to switch from spine to box, and it does look much more impressive

thank you for the clarification! i was also under the impression that when people were saying "box side" that they meant the cover. dunno why, that's just how i pictured it in my head.

with that in mind, i generally do box since in most cases it draws attention to the fact that it's a box set so it stands out a bit.

Box side. That's why they put them in the box.

I change it up. It's whatever I'm feeling at the time is what I put towards the outside.

The spines until I watch every title. As I watch the title I flip them to the blank part of the spine. Then when I watch the entire set, reflip them and display the box

The box side - just to make dusting easier.

spines, the box side would look weird sitting next to all the individuall dvd spines.

I do display my anime box sets with the box art though, since they have nice art and i group them together.

This is exactly what I do myself. I tried flipping the box sets around so the individual titles showed instead of the box itself and it just never looked right. I figure that the box was meant to be displayed with the title facing outward for ease of sorting/finding/etc.

I usually show the box, but if I'm in the middle of watching a set I will leave the titles showing. If I have room I will also turn the box to show the side, but space prevents me from doing that with many sets.

It Varies...My Indiana Jones Set is Box Side, I had My Star Wars collection box side but I switched recently to line up with the prequels. The Stanley Kubrick collection I display titles, The Pacino boxset is titles also. TV Series like Twin Peaks and Seinfeld and Sopranos or anything else with slimpacks are always box side.

I agree with JasonTHX. I have a mixture of both, with the majority box side out. However, I also switched my Star Wars set to spine side out, but that was due to new custom covers that I downloaded so they all match now. Mothy Python mega set is box side out, but the side of the box has too much writing on it, so it looks dumb. The spines are too thin, so that doesn't look right, either. Box side out for that one. The Nightmare box set is spine side out due to the picture they form.

My biggest complaint is inconsistency of packaging between TV on DVD sets from season to season, mainly on seasons that are still in production on TV. 24 comes to mind immediately (other than the new thin packs which all match) and Alias. It's nice to have multiple sets that blend well with each other. Don't these companies know we display these things in our house!

John
