Friday Night Lights Season 1---August 28th (Money Back Guarantee!)

The underdog show of the 2006-07 season will be released on August 28th. One thing TVshowsonDVD.com pointed out about this ad they posted....The suggested retail price is only $29.98!! Does that sound right?

Here's the link with artwork:

Cameron McGaughy 06-22-07 12:51 PM

This would be a great blind buy folks...I hope many people take a chance on it. This is such a great show and can hopefully gain viewers and popularity with this release, and stay on the air as long as possible.

Red Dog 06-22-07 01:02 PM

That's a phenominal price. Best show on broadcast television last season. Maybe the best on all television.

Legolas 06-22-07 01:30 PM

They left "Lance" off the cover, the only regular not on there.

critterdvd 06-22-07 02:01 PM

I never got a chance to watch this series when it aired, but have been eagerly looking forward to the DVDs. At that price the set has been upgraded from "netflix" to "must buy"!

I am planning on it, everyone here talks about how good the show is I will probably check it out.

Bluelitespecial 06-22-07 02:34 PM

I bet these will be two sided dvds that is why the price is so cheap.

Sparrow 06-22-07 02:47 PM

I finally heard the good buzz on this show towards the middle of the season and am very much looking forward to seeing the show from the pilot onwards. I previewed a few scenes throughout the season, but deferred to the DVD release. I'll plan to pick this up as well. Excellent price too!

SexualPudding 06-22-07 04:00 PM

No HD-DVD, eh? Bummer.

MadMark 06-22-07 04:11 PM

I'm looking forward to this, but if that price is correct, I'm worried that it's going to be a bare bones release, double sided disks, and/or have music replaced.

slop101 06-22-07 05:02 PM

Has a full 22-episode season of a one-hour show ever retailed this low upon release?

'Cause that's priced to sell like a motherfucker. Looks like NBC/Universal is selling this at a loss (or close to it), hoping to attract new viewers for the new season.

gotrice487 06-22-07 05:27 PM

This will be a blind buy for me but that is a great price!

Doughboy 06-22-07 06:19 PM

Damn, at that price it'll be available online for under 20 bucks. Anyone who hasn't seen this show yet owes it to themselves to pick up this set. At that price, there's no excuse not to.

I do hope Universal comes through with a day-and-date HD-DVD release.

Mountain Biker 06-23-07 12:28 AM

Easily the best TV show to come along in years...I can't wait to pick this up

When NBC announced that FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS was being renewed for a second season, they promised a "reasonably priced DVD set" to encourage new viewers to give the show a shot before the next season started.

Geist 06-23-07 12:18 PM

Yeah, I'm torn. I hope it sells well so more people find the show, because it deserves an audience. But it doesn't look like the set is going to get much love in terms of presentation and extras.

DJariya 06-23-07 12:56 PM

TVShowsonDVD.com has confirmed that the price is correct.

Their article lists some extras as well:

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=7530

Some deleted scenes and a behind the scenes documentary....Hey that's better than nothing.

MadMark 06-23-07 01:10 PM

The small amount of extras and the apparent absence of commentaries isn't a deal killer, but it would be a big let down. And, I'll say it again, at such a low price, I am very concerned about possible music replacement.

DJariya 06-23-07 01:17 PM

I know CBS has been replacing music on some of their TV on DVD releases even for current shows like Ghost Whisperer and Criminal Minds, so it honestly wouldn't shock me.

mdc3000 06-23-07 03:42 PM

I'm glad about the low price point, because that'll convert a lot of new fans who might have sat this out with a high list price...but if music is changed I'll be kind of pissed... I love this show and will buy it on release day (just wish it was coming in HD, but I'll take what I can get!)

Geofferson 06-23-07 03:51 PM

Awesome news. Might pick up a few copies for gifts as well.

David Lambert 06-23-07 04:44 PM

And, I'll say it again, at such a low price, I am very concerned about possible music replacement.
The main reason for the low price point, Universal tells us at TVShowsOnDVD, is to take the hit on price and get people attracted to the show via the DVD. Then get them to watch Season 2.

Gord didn't ask about music replacement when he talked to them, but they didn't give us any reason to think that music will be replaced, either.

Smart move.

DVDMagic 06-24-07 09:51 AM

Another one that never watched the show but heard so much about it, so I guess I'll be picking it up.

Man, August and September are turning out to be very expensive TV on DVD months. I'm glad that I held of during the DD sale and saved some $$

Lance? Who's Lance? You mean Landry, Saracen's buddy?
On a side note, this is great show, and I'm really excited its coming to dvd, but i gotta say that the cover artwork sucks. It's real boring.

Legolas 06-24-07 12:46 PM

Yes. Coach Taylor kept calling Landry "Lance."

ASAPadam 08-02-07 03:25 PM

Blind buy for me, but it's the least risky ever. First, it's only $20 and now there's a money-back guarantee: www.fnlguarantee.com

Toad 08-02-07 03:30 PM

Sweet, the hot chick at my DVD disposal 24 hours a day!

That is so weird to me...

what are they talking about "friday night lights: the first/second half"?

shyguy1083 08-02-07 07:22 PM

my guess on the cheap MSRP is probably also priced to get purchases from the people who will be out buying "heroes: season 1" that day. if ppl are in-store to get heroes, and see fnl at a ridiculouly cheap price (i'm guessing it'll be around $19.99 at retailers like bby, cc, and target) that they'll opt to pick it up also because, well, why not? it's critically acclaimed, and a full season for half the price of most tv shows. what a steal.

ugh, i never even thought of that. that's true though. is there a disc count somewhere? i HATE flippers, but i love this show so i'll buy it regardless.

hmmm... i don't recall any press release or info about them splitting the seasons. i know that they ARE doing that for 30 rock, you can buy full season, vol. 1, vol. 2... though i have no idea who would buy just one-half of a season... doesn't make much sense. i guess it's a benefit to "test" out a series, but if you end up liking it, you pay MORE to get vol. 2 later instead of just buying the whole season in the first place.

DangerousG 08-02-07 07:59 PM

Its a 5-disc set! :)

I don't understand why Universal is splitting 30 Rock into 2 volumes either. I'm just going to buy the full season release, like everyone else. I understand that maybe they want to attact new viewers but it's just cheaper to buy the full season set then buying the volumes. If a person blind buy's it & really hates it, they can either sell it or just take it back.

Seems like a bad business decision. Of course Universal gave Evan Almighty a $175,000,000 million budget so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

MTRodaba2468 08-03-07 03:23 PM

At about $30 for the first season (and likely even less on sale), I'd blind buy the show.

Happy to hear that there will be at least one commentary on this.

DJariya 08-04-07 03:25 AM

I cannot see anyone who's even remotely interested in watching this show/buying the DVD requesting the refund. Easily the best and most consistent drama from last season. Very happy to hear about the commentary track. I assume if there will be at least 1, it's gotta be the pilot probably with Peter Berg since he wrote and directed it.
