MGM Home Entertainment’s Paranoia Classic Infiltrates DVD
On August 7 With An All-New Array Of Bonus Materials
Two-Disc Edition Features Director Audio Commentary,

LOS ANGELES, CA – From deep space, the seed is planted… and terror grows. The paranoid frenzy begins anew on August 7, when Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1978) returns to DVD in an all-new Two-Disc Collector’s Edition from MGM Home Entertainment. A horror classic in which a small group discovers that the human race is quietly being supplanted by alien beings devoid of emotion, the edgy thriller is directed by Oscar®-nominated master storyteller Philip Kaufman (Best Screenplay, The Unbearable Lightness Of Being, 1988; The Right Stuff) and stars an A-List cast of genre favorites and Hollywood heavyweights, including screen legend Donald Sutherland (The Puppet Masters, Animal House), Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park, Independence Day), Brooke Adams (Days Of Heaven, The Dead Zone), Veronica Cartwright (The Invasion, Alien) and sci-fi icon Leonard Nimoy (“Star Trek: The Original Series”). A remake of the 1956 propaganda masterpiece, Invasion Of The Body Snatchers is timed to coincide with the August 17 theatrical release of The Invasion, the latest re-imagining of the timeless story starring Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge!), Daniel Craig (Casino Royale), Jeremy Northam (Gosford Park) and Jeffrey Wright (Casino Royale). Presented on two-discs, the Invasion Of The Body Snatchers Collector’s Edition DVD hosts an impressive array of all-new bonus materials, including commentary by director Philip Kaufman, a retrospective look at the film titled Re-Visitors From Outer Space or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Pod, additional featurettes with new interviews from cast and crew, the original theatrical trailer and more.
The Invasion Of The Body Snatchers Collector’s Edition DVD will be available for the suggested retail price of $19.98 US/$25.98 Canada.
Invasion Of The Body Snatchers Collector’s Edition
Under cover of darkness, while an unwary city sleeps, an alien life form begins to sow the seeds of unspeakable terror. Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Leonard Nimoy and Jeff Goldblum star in this shocking, “first-rate suspense thriller” (Newsday) that “literally chills the blood” (The Hollywood Reporter). One by one the residents of San Francisco are becoming drone-like shadows of their former selves. As the phenomenon spreads, two Department of Health workers, Matthew (Sutherland) and Elizabeth (Adams), uncover the horrifying truth: Mysterious pods are cloning humans – and destroying the originals! The unworldly invasion grows stronger with each passing minute, hurling Matthew and Elizabeth into a desperate race to save not only their own lives, but the future of the entire human race.
Invasion Of The Body Snatchers Collector’s Edition bonus features include:
Disc One:
Audio Commentary by director Philip Kaufman
Disc Two:
Re-Visitors From Outer Space or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Pod featurette
Practical Magic: The Special Effect Pod featurette
The Man Behind The Scream: The Sound Effects Pod featurette

I saw this movie once and I didn't care for it too much but I think I might pick up this 2-disc special ed. release because I want to give this movie another chance because I saw this movie after seeing the M*A*S*H movie and althrough I think the TV show is one of the best, most brilliant, sweet and plain out genius shows in history, the movie annoyed the living shit out of me and Donald Sutherland who most people love, I couldn't stand him and thats probally the reason why I didn't like this movie as much as I might have if he wasn't in it.
The thing is that Jeff Goldblum is probally one of my favorite actors of all time & highly underrated and Leonard Nimoy-well who the hell doesn't like Lenard Nimoy?
Anyways I'll have to see and if anyone things that I should strongly give this movie another try, tell me!

I might buy this if MGM cleans up the video. I own the current release (and the other two versions, too) but the print needs some restoration. The documentary sounds interesting, as well.
The trailer for the new film gives away too many plot points, but it looks pretty darn scary, so I'm in.

How's the Eng audio track on the 1st release? I read a couple reviews stating that the audio was pretty poor quality, but haven't heard the track myself.
Looking at the CE specks, the first release commentary track is included, and it looks as if the first release audio streams are included too with no remaster.
As long as the video is 16x9, I'll probably get it, but why not remaster the audio streams?

I love this movie. What excites me is the running time. It's listed as 157 minutes on Amazon. Probably a misprint, but if not it implies one hell of an extended cut.
