I have had the HD-A2 for almost six months and I love HD DVD. I will probably buy a Blu-ray player in the fall.
Every HD DVD that I have seen has looked noticeably better than the DVD, so I do not understand why more people who are willing to rebuy the same DVDs over and over do not just buy the HD releases. |
I have a HD display and a XBOX 360, so I am $200 away from joining the war, but I will not.
I would prefer to wait until there is a 90% chance we know who the winner is. That being said, I may again think about picking up one of them after the start of the new year. |

Until titles that make it worthwhile to upgrade are released at a resonable price, I'm staying on the fence thanks. Besides while I do collect movies, I have a TON of TV on DVD and that isn't likely to show up as HD ever unless (like Smallville or LOST) it was filmed in HD. |

I'm an adopter of both but will keep buying TV shows on DVD (except for the ones coming out in HD, like Smallville, etc) because it's going to take forever for them to come out on the HD formats. I have completely stopped buying regular DVDs for movies, however. |
I'm an adopter of both and whilst I own more BR discs due to review copies, I edge slightly with HD DVD due to better titles (for me) and the fact that it isn't region encoded. The companies siding with BR or HD doesn't bother me because the big companies don't always own the rights (example is Underworld on HD DVD in Spain). I also prefer HD DVD because Sony were arseholes by trying to break away from a single format that had been agreed on. Personally I don't care who 'wins' as even if a winner does come it will be several years yet, by which point, real movie fans will have adopted both or dual player machines will be pretty damn cheap.

I'm still waiting. I actually came a little close from jumping on the HD DVD bandwagon but after looking in to it the player was only a 1080i.
If I'm going to pay money I'd rather wait and get a Hybrid player. I"m curious to see what happens this holiday season and that might be a factor. I have a nice 1080p brand new 65" TV wating for it but like others have said most newer DVD's look pretty good IMO. I have quit buying DVD's all the time and that is limited only to the few movies I love and comic book based movies. If it's one of those HD-DVD/DVD hybrids I might consider it though just for the future. But for now I wait. |
Waiting for players that can handle DTS-HD and Dolby TruHD.

I buy way to many TV ON DVD titles to even consider buying a HD DVD or Blu-Ray player.
The fact that the all the movies being released in HD/BR are being released on DVD & at a cheaper price makes me even farther from considering buying any of the new format players. The only thing good I would say that has come out of the new formats coming out is that the prices for TV ON DVD sets have been cheaper as of late but more of that has to do with sales of that if its cheaper more people are going to buy it, same with movies altrough 25 bucks for a new movie is still alot to some people. Not me though since i don't mind slappin' down the big bucks for a DVD because I don't even have a HDTV so i haven't blown all my money. Just a nice SDTV and HTDVD Sony system. that and the fact I have way to many DVD & replacing all of them would just be a total waste of money, If DVD do ever get replaced by one of the new formats I won't be a happy camper. |
Still waiting due to the price of it all
|
Went ahead and bought a PS3, but have rented the Blu-Ray discs from Netflix instead of purchasing them.
|
Still waiting for either one winner or for massive price drops to get them down to closer to SD prices. Plus by the time that happens not only will the players be better and more feature packed but maybe at least they will have hybrid players so I don't need two separate pieces of equipment to serve the same purpose if there is no winner. The discs themselves should be cheaper by then too.

I have a HD DVD player (Toshiba A20) and have been incredibly happy with it. But I'm also waiting for Blu-ray players to go down in price so I could be format neutral.
|
I'm torn between no interest and still waiting. Right now I have no interest as I don't have a HD TV. Maybe when I do, I'll be interested. But by then, I hope the format thing is figured out. I'm not going to buy two players, one for HD and one for BR.
I also hope my 200 standard DVDs don't become the modern equivalent of VHS. I doubt that will happen. At least I've been wise enough to buy widescreen only when applicable. I also think that when it comes to a lot of the older movies and TV shows I have, I can't see how they're going to look any better on HD vs SD, given their age and how they were filmed. But for me to get into HD, I'll need - a reason, a clear format, the money and a drop in prices. |
I have and greatly enjoy both. If a film I want comes out on both formats, I almost always choose the Blu-ray. Couldn't wait for the Matrix to come out on BD though...
|
I'm going to keep my old Kenwood SD player on life support until Christmas... see where the format war stands at that point... and pick up a sub-$200 player (if they've hit that price point by then).
The industry really screwed the pooch with this HD-DVD-BluRay debacle. A hi-def optical format should've been a slam dunk with consumers. |
I still haven't bought into either format yet. I will not invest in anything until there is a winner. Standard definition is by no means so horrible that it is irritating to watch, so I will live happily with this format until there is a winner in the HD wars. I could also care less if both formats fail. I think it would be a fitting end for both sides for putting the the dvd buying public through this.
|
Since I have about 300 movies on DVD. I am leaning to HDDVD but since price are yet high on both formats. I am going to wait a little bit see how the procress of the format war is going. Wait until a good system wich can play both formats come out.
|
Still waiting also. I've stoppped being an early adopter. I've seen and been in too many format wars. I've also paid high end for buying too early. I'll stay with standard def for now.
|
I was going to sit out and wait for the format war to end. With the $250 A2/D2 HDDVD player, I sold my Oppo player and went with that. I figure for $100 more, I have a better upconverted player (slightly, but I can tell the difference) and I get HDDVD. I plan on buying a PS3 eventually anyway.
|
I was an early adopter of DVD because I hated the quality of VHS. And to me, standard DVDs still boast exceptinally great quality (not to mentional lower prices for the discs, compared to their HD counterparts). Perhaps if one format "wins" and the prices of the discs equal those of standard DVDs, maybe then...
|
I have a PS3 and about 12 Blu-ray discs so far. I will probably also pick up a HD-DVD player in the next few months or so.
|
I currently have a Toshiba HD-A1 for my HD-DVD collection. I do not oppose Blu-ray but am holding out for a good afforable dual format player before jumping in. I prefer having one player that could handle both discs instead of owning 2 separate ones. I already have too many DVD players, and there is not enough room to add another player to my home theater unless I get rid of some of them. I'm not willing to do that unless I can get a player that can do everything.
|
Waiting. Finally bought an HDTV yesterday, but just picked up an upconverting Samsung SD DVD player.
As others, I'm not making the HD or Blu Ray movie leap until prices of players and discs drop down closer to SD DVD levels, there is a larger movie library, and hopefully one of the formats dies off (or there are good dual format players for $200 or less). |
