I don't know what they're going to add here, especially considering the current edition was pretty well put together. Unless it's something mind-blowing I'll probably pass.

Cool. The "His name is RAAALPH" Edition!

DVD Talk Platinum Edition
Maybe if they could involve Chong somehow. It was frustrating listening to the commentary and have Cheech and Lou Adler say again and again, "Ha ha, Chong wrote that."

I don't know if this helps but I was flipping channels, saw them reviewing DVDs on Attack of the Show....and the reviewer chose this as his 'quick pick' or whatever, and then Tommy Chong came on for a few minutes and talked. So...Tommy Chong recommends it.

Quick comparison.....
old edition - Commentary and deleted scenes with commentary
new edition - same commentary and same deleted scenes with commentary.... new extras...Lighting Up: A Look Back at Up In Smoke , Earache My Eye Featuring Alice Bowie: Animated Music Video , Cheech & Chong's "The Man Song", 2 Vintage Radio Spots, Theatrical Trailer
Whoopee Do - a short little featurette called 'Lighting Up' and some videos - not exactly a 'special edition' !!
Though its cheap at around $10 - I'll be saving my money keeping the original in my collection !

DVD Talk Gold Edition
Thanks Tony. I've been wondering about this myself. I don't own the movie yet but wasn't sure if I'd be losing anything with only this edition. I'm glad to know the original extras all carry over.

There's a review up at dvd movie guide (www.dvdmg.com), but it doesn't compare the previous release with the special edition release.

O.k. fellas I picked this up at Circuit City this week for $8.
The transfer is indeed waaay better that the last dvd.
Colors look good and there's no murky scenes like the last dvd.
Now the new extras are no big deal.
Sometimes these double dips only add extras, but keep the same old transfer.
But not in this case.
