Interesting Packaging Mistake

I ordered Shinobi: Heart Under Blade from Funimation at Amazon.com and received the disc the other day. Inside the sealed DVD case were the discs for Afro Samurai Dierctor's Cut, which doesn't release until May 22. I guess I'll watch it, but I really wanted Shinobi. I emailed Funimation and have not received a response yet. Interesting goof, I wonder how many other people had this happen...

TheKing 05-16-07 05:20 AM

Happened to me a few years ago. I bought the Rocky Box Set, and inside the case for Rocky IV was the DVD for the movie Roadie (which I already owned). Had a hell of a time getting it replaced.

tommyp007 05-16-07 07:09 AM

I've had this happen once. Purchased "An Innocent Man" with Tom Selleck at Best Buy, and when I opened it, there was another movie inside. I also had a hell of a time making a return.

madcougar 05-16-07 07:40 AM

I had this happen with a CD once. I just remember it was an REM CD, but it had a Cole Porter CD inside. Fortunately I was a very regular customer of this music store and they took it back.

MovieExchange 05-16-07 07:50 AM

How's this for messed up - had a customer order a cheeseball movie called Convoy. I got it in, sold it to them. A few days later they were back in saying that the movie wasn't on the disc. The disc had the label for Convoy on it, but when you put it in the player it was some collection of music videos for a band called Floater.

it happens more often than you think, the best one we got at work was an Earth Wind, and Fire CD labeled as such but has the music of Rage Against the Machine on it. The customer was pretty confused.

kitkat 05-16-07 09:31 AM

I once bought a new CD of something or other and received an empty case. I was able to exchange it, but I'm not sure the store truly believed me.

kaze0 05-16-07 09:34 AM

Once I bought an Eminem cd and it had some other rap crap on it and I never realised it for years :/

slop101 05-16-07 10:24 AM

Out of the thousands of dvds I've bought, the only packaging mistake I can recall is my copy of Lonesome Dove that had two copies of the second disc on the second hub of the dvd-case - but it wasn't a big deal, since the first disc was still there.

So I'm assuming there's a Lonesome Dove package out there with no 2nd disc (IOW, a lonesome 1st disc...)

dullboy 05-16-07 10:33 AM

I bought a copy of Solaris in the bargain bin at Walmart, and there was a blank CD in it instead of the movie...A BLANK CD! The managers didn't want to believe me that it came that way. If I was trying to short change them a movie, doesn't it make a little more sense that I would do it for a $20 and up disc, and not a freakin' $5 bottom of the bargain bin title?

slop101 05-16-07 10:51 AM

As for cds - I once bought a Richard Thompson cd (Shoot Out The Lights), and even though the disc itself was marked correctly (so it wasn't really a packaging mistake), the content of the disc was Bowie's Ziggy Stardust.

FILMCZY 05-16-07 11:59 AM

My horror story was purchasing Pearl Jam's first cd. Pearl Jam artwork: check. Pearl Jam label and track listing on cd: check. Pearl Jam actually ON the cd: nope. It was Celine Dion. I took it back and told the clerk I thought Pearl Jam new "mellow" sound was intriguing. I called Sony's PR dept and they really wanted me to send it back. But I kept it for shites & giggles.

DeanoBKN 05-16-07 12:30 PM

The most i've ever seen was customers returning DVD's that contained 2 of the same disc in a multi disc set.

I think one version of Pinocchio had that happen too--I got mine in a trade, and started to watch it like two years later--it was Prince of Egypt. My boy was looking forward to watching Pinnochio too. Disney/BV/whoever did replace it for me, so I give points for that.
The only weird thing that happened with music that I can recall was when I bought the cassette for the Smiths' Louder than Bombs, it had two copies of the cassette liner thingy.

nateman 05-22-07 04:35 AM

I buy alot of tv on dvd sets and have only exp. 2 things so far-the first was a printing error on the back of newsradio-1 & 2, it where it says the complete first and second season on the back the second was missing an 'e'.
the second one was when i got hart to hart-1 there were 2 disc 5's.

muttonhead 05-22-07 01:28 PM

I bought "To Sir With Love" for my wife several years ago. Supposed to be widescreen on one side, fullscreen on the other. The widescreen side had a Godzilla movie on it, menus and all. Never returned it because my wife is happy enough with the fullscreen version :hairpull: , and to tell the truth, I thought it was kind of a cool foul-up.

Cronenbergfan71 05-22-07 05:48 PM

I bought a copy of The Criterion Collection edition of Andrei Rublev and opened it only to discover that there were two discs inside, stacked on top of each other.
I also had the same experience as slop101 with the Richard and Linda Thompson CD. Those are the only two though in all my years of buying media.

darkhawk 05-22-07 08:40 PM

I bought a movie from Circuit City and when I got home and opened it, there was no dvd in the case. I took it back to the store and had a hard time with one guy who started smarting his mouth off to me saying that I kept the disk to get another one.

I replied back to him "how do you know that there was a dvd in here in the first place?" Then he tried to smart his mouth off again and his manager heard everything that was said and exchanged it for the same title.

Blasphemer! Convoy rules the world.

My copy of The Cramps' Bad Music for Bad People cd had two discs stacked on top of each other. Also, my copy of The Modern Lover's first album had two booklets.

I had a hard time returning a That '70's Show set at Wal-Mart that was missing disc 1. They really thought I was trying to screw them over. But I got a new set when I asked for the manager. I opened the new set right there in front of the clerk.

When I bought Shenmue for the Dreamcast, it had all the right discs, but two copies of Disc 2 stacked on top of each other.

same thing happened to me once, but i had no problem returning it.

Heartagram 05-24-07 11:10 PM

Dawn of the Dead Ultimate collection of mine had 2 copy's of the european cut and no Extended Cut. Exchanged no problem.

geicos27 05-25-07 01:57 AM

I recieved Final Destination 2 as a Christmas present. When I opened it, the case was empty. I returned it to Best Buy, and did not have a problem exchanging it.

My only experience with this was the 2-Disc version of Disney's Dinosaur. We sat down to watch it and there was no disc 1. I thought that the kids had lost it! After a bit of arguing, I believed them and called Walmart. The girl on the phone said "Bring it back, no problem!"

Of course, the girl at the return desk didn't think it was no problem. After 15 minutes of hassle, I pointed out that I was wanting the same movie, and why would I want the same movie if I had kept the disc already. When I offered to open up the new one (so that I couldn't exchange an unopened copy) she finally swayed. Guess what . . . we opened 4 of them before we found one with a Disc 1 in it!

That's what gets me about this whole thing. I know some people will steal anything, but I and I think most sane people aren't going to travel back to a store and go through this hassle all to gain one more copy of Disk 2 of a 4 disk set, or whatever.

Wow. Some major screwup there!

Wasn't Convoy where Stuntman Mike's duck ornament came from?

SteveBlair 05-28-07 02:03 PM

I bought Frosty the Snowman a few years back. Put in in the player and up starts a lecture on physics! Returned it and had the same thing happen!!

Took 2 tries before I actually got a correct copy...

gryffinmaster 05-28-07 03:50 PM

Heh, that actually happened with me and the Oldboy: Ultimate Edition Tin. Opened the sucker up and, lo and behold, there were two of the "Disc 2" digipack, and sure enough they both had the Disc 2 inside the digipacks. Returned it with no problem for another copy. Customer service was even cool enough to let me hold onto the tin I had bought (since the other had a ding) and just switch out the contents.

Tokyo shock did a packaging mistake for this one.. Geez.. who could have ever imagine creating a DVD case that is so so hard to remove and put back in.

I highly doubt that this will not take long and be pulled out and get recalled.

Believe me its not safe opening this DVD. The main reason (as what fellow member wildman1037 said)- The plastic/packaging Clinging.. Its hard to remove the bloodbag and also the DVDs inside.

Anyways here are four 1st hand look of an opened ichi the killer (took 10minutes in the making - whew.. this is the hardest DVD I opened to still look like "new" condition)

I bought the set of the Outer Limits new tv series and it had 2 disc 2's and no disc one. I didn't notice it until months after I bought it so I couldn't return it. I still haven't opened it. If i see it at Best Buy again, I'll buy a new copy and return the old unopened one.
