How do you keep track of your DVD collection?

What program do you use?

Currently I am using Excel but I want to use a specific program for DVD collection...

So far I am thinking of

http://www.collectorz.com/movie/

Anyone has this?

Oh I tried searching if there is a thread already but it seems there isn't, which id kinda odd, maybe I did not search hard enough. If there is a thread already please post thanks!

I use DVDSpot as well as DVDProfiler 3.0

Mr. Cinema 04-03-07 03:25 PM

I have Collectorz, but since the new version of DVD Profiler was just released, I'm using that more often.

sracer 04-03-07 03:31 PM

Ant Movie Collector. By far it is the easiest to get up and running with (since it has IMPORT capabilities). It does a nice job of handling those "homegrown" discs too. Although it provides many templates and scripts out-of-the-box, it is easy enough to create custom reports.

I use DVD Aficionado for a conformity reason but now it looks like DVD Spot - Oh well.

I also use Word Document to list films that I have watched and owned (*) in order of release years ie.

Faust [1926] F.W. Murnau
*Metropolis [1927] Fritz Lang

I find it very helpful for my study and reference.

I write them on my face, I am up to 23 movies so far!

DVD Profiler

Doc MacGyver 04-03-07 04:27 PM

Wow... you guys are awfully organized... I just have the grouped by Genre in my Leather bound DVD books, and I just remember which ones I have.

digitalmanAZ 04-03-07 04:48 PM

I started using DVD Aficionado initially and at about the 100 mark dumped everything into
DVD Profiler. I used their 2.x version and recently purchased the 3.x version. High res scans, lots of details in each profile, reports, nice for browsing and filtering your collection.

An extremely elaborate Access database.

Hands down the best program for keeping up with your DVDs (and CDs, books) is Delicious Library.

But of course you'll have to upgrade your computer to a Mac. :)

kitkat 04-03-07 08:06 PM

DVDSpot.

SideShow 04-03-07 08:55 PM

DVD Aficionado, I like the simple set-up and the ability to make my own sub-folders. The other main reason I used it was the "who else owns this" feature, so I was bummed when they dropped that :( But I haven't liked any others yet. I also keep a notebook of the movies I watch and my rating of them.

nateman 04-03-07 10:47 PM

good ole Microsoft Excel.

I have it broken into 2 sheets:

DVD Collection Log
DVD Order History
&
Every Month make a release schedule sheet:
ex.
DVD Release Schedule (april 07)

then use Microsoft Word to keep track of what i have to watch, i usually finish the new release within the week but if i don't finish and it takes me over a week to finish i will add it to the watch list.

I use the DVD Spending tab here at DVDtalk to keep track of the money i spend.

Back in my early DVD days in 2001, i used to use the 'old school' pen & paper.

Another vote for the new DVD Profiler V3.0. Just threw down the 30$ for it, and it's definitely worth it.

Me too for my offline database. I wouldn't call it extremely elaborate yet, but it's fairly detailed. What all is in yours? Mine right now includes information on the DVD edition, runtime, aspect ratio, purchase information, MSRP, year, director, and I think that's about all. Of course I have lots of queries set up so I can get exactly the info I need immediately.

Online I just use DVD Aficionado. It's not the best looking or most detailed, but it gets the job done. Online all that really matters to me is a basic listing of what I've got for other people to see. I also keep my wantlist on there. It's very incomplete, but it's an easy to way to keep a halfassed list of what I want.

DVD Spot

On my local machine I use Collectorz' Movie Collector as there's nothing even close to that IMO, and online I use DVDSpot. That site is awesome.

Delicious Library because it looks pretty!

Mr. Cinema 04-04-07 09:55 AM

Yes, import from CSV or TXT file for Title or UPC.

macnorton 04-04-07 10:21 AM

Depending on what OS (operating system for you non-nerds) there are two good ones.

DVD Profiler on the PC side is good

DVDPedia is the best on the Mac side, and in my opinion better than Profiler. DVDPedia also comes as CDPedia, GamePedia, and BookPedia. Check out bruji.com for more info.

Sebring98 04-04-07 10:34 AM

Delicious Library.

jedidiah 04-04-07 11:47 AM

I have been using Movie Collector, but I also have Delicious Library installed on my computer (I've been using it for books). I'm curious to try out Delicious Library for my movies, and I am wondering if there is a good way of importing the info from Movie Collector into Delicious Library....

Thanks!
