Is this a defective dvd or not question for you.

I just received Curse of the Golden Flower dvd (R1) today in the mail and when I put it on my Mitsubishi dvd player it wouldn't play. So then I put it on my other two dvd players that I have ( Sony & Toshiba ) and it plays fine. Has this ever happend to anyone here? Why would it not play on one player and work fine on another? Would you say this dvd is defective or not?

What happens when it doesn't play? Does it access a menu and freeze there or just get stuck searching for "title 4" or does the player not even read that a disc has been loaded?

I would say that the DVD is definitely not defective, either the Mitsubishi has problems reading certain discs or there's something wrong with the laser.

Sounds like another 'new protection' issue, were the laser can't read the disc because of it. I think your Mitsubishi player might need an upgrade in order to play the DVD, which is bullshit but what are you going to do?
just play it on your Sony or Toshiba.

Mine wouldn't play in a PS2, but played fine in a Philips dvd player.

When I put it on my Mitsubishi player it doesn't read it at all. Just a blank screeen comes up. I'll just have to do what nateman say's and switch dvd players cause the Mitsubishi player is on my big screen/ surround sound system and the others aren't. Thank you for your reply's.

If the Mitsu is an older player, that could be the issue. You might want to check the Mitsu website to see if there's a firmware update available.

I have an older Toshiba (at least 7 years old) that won't play any of my home made DVD-Rs and has issues with some extra feature's menus on certain Disney DVDs.

Sounds like a player problem.

I also have an older Toshiba player (which won't read CD-Rs) and occasionally I'll have a disc that it won't load. Actually, all of Lost season two is like that. The player won't recognize the discs, but they play fine in other players.
