I just seen Gravedancers and it was a blast! Had that Tales from the Crypt feel! Some really cool creepy moments

I am also going to check out UNREST, REINCARNATION and DARKRIDE, the rest I will skip

I ordered the box set through Overstock. It shipped on the 24th and hit Springfield Mass yesterday. I'm assuming it'll arrive here sometime within the next couple of days.

rottentomatoes says this is a disappointment. still tempted, though cerda's 'aftermath / genesis' (out on R1) was astonishing.

I had one clerk finally ring up the six plus a 2nd "Gravedancers", giving me the 7 for $60 price (it came up automaticly, it doesn't mater if some titles are the same, you could ring up all 7 the same). She told me to bring the unopened duplicate back to the store with reciept and exchange it when the get more in stock. It was a bit of a pain but realisticly by the time I get to watching all 7 I'm sure I'll have it.
had the same prob at the Tenleytown BB store, was able to snag 6 of the films, but the one that was out of stock was 'Unrest'. Once they have it back instock I'll go back and exchange my duplicate copy of 'The Gravedancers' for it.

Oh, come on. $14.99 for the other seven and full price for the Abandoned...

I enjoyed it. I thought it was one of the better ghost stories.

I'm only sort of interested in these.

I have a feeling these will be available at bargain prices (~$5) before too long, so I think I'll wait them out.

I suspect the same thing. Judging by the way most folks describe these films, I wouldn't be surprised if they go for less than $5 a pop or the box set going for under $30.

You know about the Best Buy deal? If you can't find 'em at a store you can also order all 7 online for $60 but shipping puts a dent in the deal.... but still cheaper than buying the boxset.

I watched Gravedancers today and I agree on the Tales From the Crypt Feel. The "smiling" ghost make up was great.

Update: Very cool, Best Buy got in some more copies of The Hamiltons and the cute chick who helped me out originally called me and told me she was saving one for me. I went in tonight and exchanged the 2nd Gravedancers for it no problem.

Hooray! A good experience at Best Buy (although, damn it they should have ordered enough in the first place).

Don't go by rottentomatoes when it comes to horror movies. Check out some dedicated horror sites instead.

i know all these sites. i can see why people do it, but i actually think it has the opposite effect - this dedication to a genre, at least in coverage - than the one its intended to. contrast helps, isolation doesn't.

Bloody-Disgusting said that "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning" was something like "the most shocking horror film they'd ever seen...too gruesome".

Then I watched the film and laughed at how they must be little girls. The movie was a joke.

I agree, as a horror fan I tend not to listen to mainstream reviewers like on RT. My favorite is Bloody-disgusting.com, especially now that the got rid of the "talk back" portion of the reviews.

I like Dread Central myself. Both Dread Central and Bloody Disgusting were right on with their Hills Have Eyes 2 reviews. What went wrong their.

Watching Gravedancers was a lot more fun.

Just watched The Hamiltons and The Reincarnation. Both turned out to be among the worst movies I've ever seen.

What a marketing ploy.

Yeah, real shocker. Just so you know, the "After Dark" company is run by a guy named Courtney Solomon, the GENIUS director behind "Dungeons & Dragons" and "An American Haunting". Yeah.

I originally wanted to use my Best Buy Rewards certificates on all 7, but my store didn't have them, so I bought something else.

Turns out, my roommate had some Best Buy Rewards certificates that he said he'll never use ($35 worth), so he let me have them. Went to a farther Best Buy today and they had all seven. So I got all 7 for $29.85 I couldn't resist.

Just watch Dark Ride and I have to say this was a great fun horror movie! I hope the other 6 are just as good!

I'm slowly working my way through them and am going to watch "Dark Ride" tonight. I started with "Gravedancers" and then saw "Wicked Little Things". I liked both quite a bit, maybe because my expectations were so low. Both were better than 90% of the "direct to video" horror that's clogging the pipes right now.
Don't get me wrong, both could have been improved by a slightly higher budget ("creature effects" mainly), but I'm glad I picked them up.

Now... on to "Dark Ride"

BTW if you want to know what I consider good "direct to video" horror (part of the 10%) Rest Stop and Sublime (both from Raw Feed) were two recent suprising little gems.

I don't get it, why is everyone spending money on these films if they were expecting total shit? Regardless of whether or not they turned out good...what made you want to buy them?

When the ads came out for the film festival I really wanted to go, but never could. A couple of the movies got good reviews but the others mixed. Once the DVD came out I could find at least one person who loved any one of the movies. 4 actually got very good reviews by a review site I trust.
Honestly had BB not offered the 7 for $60, I would have only gotten 4 (which was $60).
The reason my expectations were so low was that every movie was being totaly slamed by someone.

People seem to be really split on these discs. I, for one, enjoyed most of them. Even if it was only bits and pieces of each title.

I just finished "Dark Ride" and although it was a bit campy and had a (IMHO) lousy ending, I thought it was fairly OK. Not as good as the first two I watched.
