Criterion Pricing on Bresson and Bergman films?

I want to purchase some of their films on Criterion but at Amazon the pricing is unbelievably expensive compared to standard Criterions including 2-disc releases. For example Au Hasard Balthazar is listed at $25.00 but Mouchette is at whooping $35.00! Only major featurette difference is a commentary but really that much?

Most of Ingmar Bergman films are listed at their full retail price and as a new Criterion consumer it is very disheartening to see other Criterions going off on a big slice of sale but never these. Also I have to add international shipping.

What's the deal here?

not quite sure where you are looking. take a look at dvdplanet.com, which generally is tough to beat (e.g. mouchette = $23.95). there are also $5 off coupons, which can be found in the bargains forum.

in very general terms, most criterion discs fall within one of two price tiers, and a commentary is often the only difference.

Holy crap! These are good deals and way cheaper than Amazon. I just ordered Mouchette as a trial run and hopefully their service will be satisfying enough for future purchases. *fingers crossed*

Thanks for the site info cgray!

Amazon only has good prices for:
1. most preorders
2. many box sets
their prices on almost everything else are horrible, and you should buy things elsewhere. I buy most of my dvds from DVDPlanet.
